Does anybody know that if the miniatures of this game are the same sort of size as those in the Memoir 44 Air Pack?

It's a long time since I saw the M44 Air Pack models but from memory I would say that they are of mixed scale.

The reason I say this is that the planes ranged from single engined fighters (like the spitfire), through observation planes (like the Storch) to twin engined fighters (like P38), all with varying wingspan in real life but pretty much the same in M44, So the Spitfire is going to be a bigger sclae than the P38.

The Battle of Britain planes are 1/300 scale so to determine wingspan

Wiki the plane you are interested in
Note wingspan in metres
Multiple by 1000
Divide by 300

That is the wingspan in millimetres.

Of course you can do similar for imperial measure if you prefer.

Example

From wiki, Spitfire wingspan is 11.23m (or 29' 11'')

11.23 x 1000 = 11,230 mm
Divide by 300
11,230 / 300 = 37mm

Wingspan of a Spitfire in 1:300 scale is 37mm

By comparison, the Wingspan of a P38 in 1:300 scale is 53mm

But in M44 the models are the same size so the scales must be different.

Cheers,

Nigel

In BoB there is a scale model tradition put into the game, perhaps partly because of the manufacturer producing such as the main business. In M44 the pieces are almost purely game pieces or tokens, all about the same size for ease of handling and play. Board games are not often all-in-the-same-scale miniature games.

Thanks Nigel for that explanation.

Also yes there does seem to be a general issue with with scale sizes in these games, which is compounded even more by the fact that players are using a lot of their own scales which they think are best suited to the games.

For Memoir 44 1/300 seems to be the majority choice.

Overall I think it's just a case of of what planes a person can get their hands on taking cost and availability into mind.
