When I first heard about this game yesterday, I thought that it was a coincidence that it sounded reminiscent of a little known, unpublished game called Weapons of Zombie Destruction. A friend of a friend designed this game years ago and I played it many times when I lived in San Francisco.

Now this morning I'm getting notifications that a bunch of images and such have been added to the BGG page for Weapons of Zombie Destruction, and it says that Mechs and Minions is a reimplementation of WZD. This is fascinating!

I'm guessing this means that somewhere in the media blitz surrounding this game, someone talked about Weapons of Zombie Destruction as a precursor. Does anyone know where that is if so? I'm curious to know more about the story.

FWIW, I thought Weapons of Zombie Destruction was a lot of fun, so I'm expecting Mechs Versus Minions to be good as well.

"Mechs vs Minions" is designed by Stone Librande who works at Riot Games as a Game Designer.

WZD is one of his earlier board game designs/prototypes.

Librande also mentioned on his Twitter account yesterday that he has made WZD for his kids originally.

This is from his personal website:

Oh! Stone is the friend of a friend I was referring to. I didn't know he was the designer of Mechs Versus Minions.

Yeah, mystery solved. Thanks!

It's mentioned on the interview episode of the Secret Cabal. Riot bought the game from your friend and then worked on retooling it.

Fascinating - that's very interesting [and astute] to bring in some boardgames guys like Quinns to take a look at it.
