I'm looking for a thematic game:
*With an average weight (2.5/5)
*High player interaction
*Some in-game text
*That can be explained in 15 min or less
*with a nice board
...Something like Survive: Escape from Atlantis!, but a bit heavier/newer.
So far our group like:
-Survive! Escape from Atlantis
I've been thinking about:
-Lords of Waterdeep
-Mission: Red Planet
What should I buy?

Ponte Vedra Beach
Salt Lake City
El Grande - Fantastic game. Best with 5, still good with 4. Loses a lot with less than 4.
Samurai - Very nice game. Highly interactive. Simple rules.
Power Grid - Another classic with a high play count. Once again, easy rules and high interaction. The auctions create thick tension, then the build phase. Good stuff.
Concordia - Something a bit newer. Interaction comes in the form of racing for locations on the board, and battling for wanted cards in the card row. Easy rules, complex play.
Chinatown - This one is all interaction, based on it being a pure negotiation game. It makes for a fun evening of banter from trades between players.
Ginkgopolis - Imagine 7 Wonders where everybody is building up a central city, vying for control of the regions they expand/build. That's Ginkgopolis. Great game. If you can handle 7 Wonders, you got this.

Look on my works ye mighty and despair
+1 Cosmic Encounter.
Nothing Personal might work for you. It's rated a bit heavier than you're asking for, but not much.
+1 for Cosmic Encounter, Libertalia and Mission: Red Planet (second edition). All very fun games that are really all about player-interaction, not very difficult to teach, have lots of replay-ability and are best with 4-6 players. You should definitely check them out.
Mission: Red Planet (second edition) it will be then!
Thanks for the advice,
