Welcome fellow Space Cadets!

You all remember that fabled gem of a planet, ORION, that garden of eden lost somewhere out there in the darkness of space, covered in valuable alien technology just waiting to be exploited.... and surely you also remember its GUARDIAN, the evil machine of death waiting to kill any that would dare to approach this world of secrets.

During Setup:

- set aside all the Doomsday Machines when placing deep space tokens

- players do not begin the game with their flagships

During play:

- When the home system planets Orion(blue), Antares(red), Valhalla(yellow), or Kronos(green) are revealed, place a Doomsday Machine on the planet. (any other 4 planets can of course be used, these are just the ones I chose)

- The Doomsday Machine is the GUARDIAN. It uses the rules of a normal DM, only it will never leave its home planet, and will attack any ship that enters its hex.

- The first player to colonize this planet gets to reap its rewards:
--- if the empire is the same color as the system marker, they immediately get their flagship for free! (This represents that trapped ship commander, who joined your empire with his one-of-a-kind ship out of gratitude for being rescued. If a different player manages to colonize your ORION planet before you do, then you miss out on your chance to get a flagship this game...)
--- Immediately gain an alien technology card! (Or play where you gain D3 alien tech cards instead, if you want to ramp it up)

- This is a GAIA planet, lush and teeming with life. When it is time to grow colonies, this planet skips the 3 population stage, going from a 1 straight to a 5!

>>> Alternatively: Just pick one deep space barren world to be the games ORION, and make sure it is mixed in with the deep space markers to be setup. Since there is only one planet now only one DM needs to be held aside as the GUARDIAN, and all players would start with their flagships as normal. (I would recommend using the D3 alien tech cards with this option. Maybe even give the players some type of unique ship for free?)

Lastly, I realize that there are only 3 DM counters included with the game.... Unfortunately, in a 4 player game, the last person to find their planet will get some other marker instead, at least until a DM is destroyed.... Oh well

Got to keep in mind that there are only 7 planets to colonize early with this variant, so you need to build one less colony ship. Also, might not want to move your colony ships along with your scouts either, at least until you find the planet, since the guardian will just wipe them out....
