Play with "suspected evidence" cards face down, only the people with the cards in front of them can look at the card.

This would mean that those that haven't seen the card yet (ie. It has never been in front of them) would still know what type of evidence is was (Motive, Opportunity, or Weapon). However, they wouldn't know exactly what card it was, so they wouldn't be sure if it would be "exonerated evidence" in front of a particular player.

If the result of the vote is a J'Accuse action, all suspected evidence cards are flipped over and resolved.

Ooooh. I like that. Adds a bit of suspense.

If they didn't stick (because of an immunity) would you leave the other card face up or would you put in a new face down one?

Keeping the card face up if it "didn't stick" might be interesting too. Then you'd have some public information, and still have some secret.

Originally I was thinking put in a new card face down. Then ...

Put the exonerated evidence on the bottom of the stack face-down like normal.

Or

You can put it on the bottom face up, and when it comes up again it gets played to the table face up. This would also mean eventually players would know what evidence cards are coming next because they are face-up in the stack.

Or

You can have a discard pile, and when an evidence stack runs out you re-shuffle and make a new draw stack.

I'm thinking you might want some of the people that have seen the card to want to vote "J'Accuse" when they know a card is in front of someone with immunity, in order to remove a card from play (so it wouldn't come back to hurt them later)? Especially if they can set it up with an Investigation card. If the card would just stay in place face up, that wouldn't really be a strategy anymore.

It would lead to some interesting accusation, bluffing scenarios.

Such as people that have seen the cards will be like "we have to stick that card with that person", when in fact they just don't want it coming to them. Or pretending you don't want a card, when you know it won't hurt you, but another card might. etc, etc ...

Some people will know you are full of crap because they have seen the card, but players that haven't seen a particular card won't know who to believe!

J'Accuse!!!!
