I'll be running a double header game from 2 linked scenarios from the Korean War supplement on Friday evening at 7pm at Advance The Colors, the HMGS Great Lakes convention held September 30-October 2 at the Clark County Historical Center, Springfield, OH. The two scenarios start with F-86s bouncing a Chinese bomber formation of Tu-2s escorted by La-11s. Initially, the F-86s are low on fuel and have a limited time to tear into the target before they have to head home. Time permitting, we will move on to the second scenario, as the bombers have jettisoned their bombs and are getting ready to turn for home, keeping existing damage to the bombers and their escorts, with more elements of F-86s hitting them again, this time with a pair of MiG-15s joining the fray coming in from their high cover position. The scenarios are Payback and Two Aces Made. Join us if your able. There will be more CY6 on Saturday as well, and Dave Winfree plans to be there in the vendor hall with his planes, rules and accessories. The game went very well, with the first scenario taking right at 2 hours and the second following along with just over 1 more. The first scenario saw more than half of the F-86s having bingo fuel on the first roll on turn 6, so that really cut down on combat, but the remaining US pilots succeeded in damaging 2 bombers and destroying a fighter. The second scenario started well enough, and the US lost little time in getting into the fight, knowing that they only could be sure of the 4 turns before they needed to check for bingo fuel. Ace pilot Major Davis tore into an La-11 right off and got a kill. Seemed he couldn't roll anything below an 11. Until that is, when he rolled a 3 for his crew check for bingo fuel and had to turn for home. An F-86 found out the hard way that he probably didn't really want to end up in front of one of the Tu-2 bombers, and was destroyed by a really good hit, and a second F-86 was brought down by an La-11. The Tu-2s had 2 damaged from the first scenario that were finished off in the second, and lost 2 La-11s overall. At the end, largely because F-86 kills were triple points, the game ended in a point tie in about 3 and a half hours of play. The player who was to take the MiG-15s ended up rolling a 6, for entry on the 12th turn, and the game ended after the 11th, so thankfully we had given that player a pair of the La-11s to stay busy with. Great pair of linked scenarios, and I plan to run this combination again in May at Drums at the Fort near Toledo.
