I've seen this mentioned, but what is the source? Anything concrete?

Are we thinking a new base game like Silver Tower or a smaller expansion like Terror in the Dark was for Advanced Heroquest?

Ideally, we'd see 3-4 standalone, fully realized and unique, yet compatible, games like the DDAS titles. I don't need a bunch of small box expansions puffing up the content count so the bits no longer fit in one box...

There will be no expansions.

This has been clarified by FFG after their agreement with GW to terminate relations was published.

Game over.

I think you are confusing Silver Tower for something else. Silver Tower has nothing to do with FFG.

To add to that, two new expansions were JUST announced this week for Silver Tower; another hero box and a card pack.

What does FFG have to do with Silver Tower?

Are these hero boxes really expansions though? They appear to be more economical ways to buy minis that are already available.

Is there something I'm missing?

And where did the undead setting rumblings come from?

The hero packs are still expansions really - they expand your options in the game (but I so see your point). And the hero cards is a great new release.

As for the undead...

It's the rumour that has bounced around all the usual places where GW leaks happen, so it appeared on places like Dakka back when Silver Tower released. Other people are hearing the same rumour from GW staff and such. I am sure someone could fish out some forum threads and news blogs where it was mentioned, but I don't have anything to point you towards at the moment.

There has been no concrete announcement from GW at all, but the rumours are usually pretty accurate for this sort of thing, so chances seem good right now.

Someone once said that about an expansion about undead, I quickly asked him to tell us his source and he never replied. Then people kept repeating this rumor to the point that people believe it will happen.

This is always a possibility with the rumour mill.

There are plenty of references floating around about it, with most people claiming to have heard it from a GW-rep, game store owner, or "insider" of some description.

There is absolutely a chance that it's all hot air, and until we get a release notice from GW we just won't know for sure; but going by the accuracy of similar rumours in the past, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now.

But yeah, as always, you have to salt all this stuff to taste.

There was some list posted on Dakkadakka maybe a month or two ago for this years releases from GW. It had no specific dates attached. to much work to try to dig through the countless pages to find it.

I trust my store owner, and the GW reps, AND the main rumor mill for Gamesworkshop which for reference is https://war-of-sigmar.herokuapp.com/

She usually has details on things a few months before release, along with pictures of Games Workshop white dwarf months before its released so there lots of picture proof.

But no, GW has not officially come out and said undead of silver tower.

I have mixed feelings about this rumor.

Primarily, I want there to be a stand alone expansion. Additional everything (heroes, adversaries, cards, tiles) is a good thing. But I am personally zombie-adverse.

Ultimately I'm holding out until Christmas to see if this rumor is true or not. At the very least the good news is that WHQ:ST is selling well and interest abounds. So even if the rumor isn't true the GW people can see that it created no small amount of buzz.

I want more comprehensive rules for leveling up and between-scenario events, similar to the original Warhammer Quest but with more depth. If GW embraces the FFG model of expanding and supporting their game lines they could take FFG's throne, especially now that FFG is stumbling a bit with their gamer-unfriendly price fixing.

I really want to try not to get off topic but....

There will never be a time where GW dethrones FFG from being the board game super power it is. In the end, GW is a miniature game company. They wont get the resources needed to do balance and flush out games like FFG does. That's FFGs lifeblood, expansions and lots more content that keeps you coming back (LCGs for one)

Im happy GW is producing amusing not bad games, but their aim over all is to get you models in a cheaper bundle deal that ultimately end up being a gateway into 40k/30k/AoS.

If your aim is for a level up system with talent trees, things to do while not in the silver tower, that's really up to the community to develop. I posted a talent tree long time ago that got good reception, just I don't have time myself to flush it out.

@ Dan - Zombies would really be a minority. I could see maybe 6 in the box or so, but it would be lots of skeletons/wraiths/vampires etc

Yeah, this is off topic, but I'm not a fan of FFGs model _at_all_. Endless small card expansions, millions of useless chits where a pencil and paper would be fine...it's all a bunch of unnecessary stuff that gamers feel they need to buy for fear of missing out.

I don't begrudge them. They have a model that works for them and their fans.

Like I said in the OP, I'd much prefer GW to release a second box set that was standalone yet compatible. Any sort of leveling system can be done in a pdf or what not. Fan made is fine too. I don't depend on a corporation to dictate how to level up or what not. Then again, I game by a DIY ethos I got from roleplaying and tabletop gaming in the 80s. A time that was a bit more content yet free form and less about consuming a steady diet of new releases. (now, I'm _way_ off topic)

I like the idea of a Strigoi lead Flesh Eater Courts game. Lot's of ghouls, dire wolves, etc. Four boxes, with each being against acolytes of a different chaos god is also good though.

I would rather GW concentrate on bringing Blood Bowl back out and then following up with the 4 team expansions with their playing fields pronto, it's a game they should never have left to drift into the never never....

In regards to FFG, their blood bowl team manager is a blast as is Relic... both GW themed under licence.... They also did a better version of Talisman than GW have done...

Onto topic, there was a rumour about Undead WHQ around the time of the Silver Tower release.. Apart from treasure cards and the odd tile I can't see what much more can be done to Silver Tower after the new releases. So another theme for AWHQ seems to be logical, it's just about fitting it into the production schedules...

GW are notorious for starting stuff and not supporting fully (outside the Warhammer/40K) so we wait and see :-)

Blood bowl has no problem, the game is alive and well and all coaches in the NAF are using other miniatures since GW abandoned the specialist range.

Honestly, BB is their most balanced game and I can see that they want their share back.. but there is no hurry, you can have everything from the alternate sources that kept the game alive all these years.

Pearls like WHQ/HQ, necromunda and, to a lesser extent, man o'war (it was a mess, really frustrating when matching fleets from different books, but it was funny hell).

So, I think it's more important to give perspective to whq now- rules are better now, but the game is just a show-off of overpowered heroes that once in a while are killed for bad luck.

Blood Bowl will be out before the end of the year. Rumours have said as much, and all the contents of the boxed set have been on display in various places throughout the year. GW have announced a "big" release for November and the money is on it being Blood Bowl. The NAF website has already been asked to remove the rulebook from their site, so its imminent.

An expansion focused on the Flesheater Court Ghouls would be sweet.

Skeletons and crap...not so much.

If they do the undead set, I think skeletons are more likely. At the moment GW only have skeletons from the old WFB range, so it would be an excuse to make some for the AoS line.

The Flesheater Court is already in the AoS line.

Not to say there won't be any ghouls and stuff (although they might be more inclined to include them as "exotic enemies" rather than in-the-box miniatures), but I'd be expecting some vampires and skellies. Which suits me fine.

I am, of course, likely to be completely wrong about everything

I don't know. The current skeletons are pretty good. Not sure where you would go with them.

Maybe a new Mortarch boss.

The ghouls would be different, which is why I would lean that way.

Silver Tower went in a very different direction than the previous Quest expansions of orcs and skeletons.

Yeah, there's only so much you can do with skeletons, I guess.

The current skeletons are pretty old though, and they haven't done any rebranded ones yet, which is why I am leaning that way. They would probably like to update the sculpts a bit. But in fairness, I just want more Silver Tower content, and don't mind at all what it is.

It would be cool if one day they released "proper" skeletons, where some are skeleton orruks, some are skeleton stormcasts, some are skeleton duaradan. It always struck me as odd that in such a varied world, all the skeletons look the same.

Maybe undead beastmen? That would stay with the chaos theme and be very new.
