My wife and I have hectic schedules during the school year with our kids/work and such so I'm looking for games that can be played in 30-45 min max. I would be looking for something with a good theme that plays quick. Dice games, card games I would be up for whatever.

We have Forbidden Island and Zombie Dice which are both fun but looking to add to it. Thanks in advance for the help everyone.

Glass Road gives you a lot of game in about 45minutes for 2 players. That includes setup and pick-up.

Definitely Jaipur fits the bill. Great game and can be as short as 10minutes for 1 round or play the full game for 3 rounds.

Also patchwork, coloretto are good ones too.

But my wife and my favorite game to play is 7Wonders: Duel. Initially it might not be 45mins to learn and play but once you play it a few times you can get it done in about 30-45mins.

Hope that helps.

If you want a heavy experience in a short time frame, Greg nailed it: Glass Road.

If you want a thinky dice game: Roll for the Galaxy.

If you want the greatest 2-player card game ever: Battle Line. My wife and I have been playing this for years and we're still loving it.

7 Wonders Duel

Most of the Kosmos two-player series are interesting and play pretty quickly.

Try Hive. It's tense and so quick that you could play 2-3 games or play it after another game.

I'd add Pagoda to the list - great looking, simple, and quick to play.

Cheers.

7 Wonders Duel
Lost Cities
Raptor
Battleline
Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation
Splendor
Star Realms

These are all games for me after playing them once or twice they can be played in 30-45 minutes or even less. Splendor is the only one on the list that isn't strictly a 2p game but my girlfriend loves playing it with 2.

San Juan is a really good strategy card game. Setup in like 30 seconds play about 30-40 minutes. It is a simplified version of Puerto Rico that has been a top rated game for years.
For newer strategy games, 7 Wonders Duel is quick and fun as is Patchwork.
For a fun family type game try Karuba which is so simple to learn and quick or my wife's all time favorite Ticket To Ride.

Do you like Pokemon? If you do like the battling aspect, you should definitely try ABXY. It's free to print, it's fast, it fits in your wallet and it's easy to understand.

Otherwise, try Star Realms and Dark Dealings, which are both small, light, and fast while being very enjoyable with a lot of replay value.

We mostly play short two player games (same scenario, no time or energy for anything long/complex after kids' bedtime during school weeks). These are/have been our favourites (and we always end up playing at least a couple of rounds of any of these):

Monopoly Deal (highly addictive take-that, played hundreds of times but eventually replaced with other favourites with more staying power below. But worth trying!)
+1 Jaipur (very aesthetically pleasing and fun)
+1 Battle Line (very tense, will always return to this)
Port Royal (current favourite, hardly any set-up, simple but interesting choices, push your luck & engine building, fast-moving and great fun!)

Thank you so much for this list. This was perfect for what I was looking for and more or less our situation.

Thanks to everyone else too, a lot of games to go through and learn about.

You're welcome! I love that it's continually being added to; I still refer to it all the time.
