Hi my set is far away but I have a chance to go base shopping. How many of which sizes does the silver tower box use?

Not sure, but this question has been asked and answered many times before, so a quick search should give you that info.

Congrats on the purchase! It's a great game.

I tried to search for the actual count to answer the question and couldn't find it. There sure seem to be a lot of threads about it though.

Just wanted to warn you (though you have probably seen this by now) that the assembly instructions get some of the base sizes wrong. So just be careful!

OK, founds a thread listing it. Looks like:

24 of the 25 mm bases.
8 x scuttlings
4 x Blue horrors
4 x Brimstone horrors
8 x familiars

21 of the 32mm bases
5 x heroes (all but the Knight Questor)
6 x Kairic Acolytes
6 x Tzaangors
2 x Deathmaster
2 x Pink Horrors

2 of the 40mm bases
1 x Knight Questor
1 x Gaunt Summoner

1 50 mm base for the Ogroid Thaumaturge.

The pink horrors go on 32mm bases.

Dangit! Thanks, fixed.

I think that was one of the ones they messed up in the assembly instructions.

Yes, it was. I believe the pink horrors and ogre thingy are wrong in the assembly guide (my copy of the game came with enough bases to assemble the Pink Horrors either way, but I'm not sure if that was normal).

I think the number of bases was all over the place; I was short on the total number of bases needed even assuming putting things on the wrong bases!

Are you buying the GW Shattered Dominion bases?

They are the best ones I have found for Silver Tower.

They seem expensive, but not compared to other resin bases that are available. Like 10 Secret Weapon bases which sell for 10 bucks....

You need a box of each and will have lots left over. No 50mm but you can use parts from a 65mm and they come with accessories to glue on them too.

I think you need mostly 40mms for expansion heroes, so it's worthwhile, even though the base game only uses a few.

I'm tempted by fancy bases but want to get an idea of what the plan is first - I don't want to put everything on bright bases only for a dark, gritty, undead expansion to come out and have them make no sense in that context...

I think that's always going to be an issue, and if people are using the models for AoS as well, whatever they pick is going to be awkward. Clear bases are a good option for people using the same models in different settings and games. Never used them myself, but it would be nice to play Silver Tower without obscuring any of the tile art.

Then just grey grit and drybrush, like standard tabletop.

Incidentally, those bases are the fantasy ones to match their new game table boards, not necessarily for Tower.

You can paint them in more repressed colors.

I've debated the same thing, since I want to use them for AoS battles too, and am not planning on buying the table boards.

Super tangent... Have you seen GW has just released its first ever neoprene mat? It's for 40k kill team and smaller games, but it wouldn't surprise me to see some for AoS in the future.

Yeah, I saw that.

Certainly more cost effective than the plastic board sections.

I use clear bases from Litko (http://www.litko.net/products/Clear-Miniature-Bases%2C-Circu... is to their 32mm bases, for example) and love them since it doesn't obscure the tiles.

Well, that didn't take long...

Sorry, I'll end the derail now...

I'm just going to do generic "stoney" bases, I think. Something a bit generic that isn't too distracting.

Transparent bases are more immersive and you enjoy better the board which is full in colors.

You could do the lazy cheap route, and photocopy the floors onto good paper. Cut out base-sized circles from a magnetic sheet. Glue the sheet to the base, then the paper to the sheet. Drill holes for tiny magnets into the miniatures.

Pins might also work. Drill a pin into the base, and a hole into the miniature, possibly vice-versa.

Amazon sells clear epoxy stickers. :

Then there's always waiting for the next eBay flash sale and buying another copy of Warhammer Quest for $90 before discount and... whistle

Compared to painting the minis, the bases are a non issue to paint.

Does base size matter in this game rules-wise or is it just aesthetics? My set didn't come with bases matching the instructions so I just put anything that would fit on a 25mm base on one and went from there. Some small figs ended up on bigger bases.

There are errors in the instructions, which were clarified in the FAQ.

However, base size doesn't matter. Everything is supposed to fit in a single square (even if it doesn't).
