The Battle of Kvasir’s Belt 300 points
Empire: Lord Vader commanding, flagship Victory 1 with Captain Needa and Gunnery team, 2 x Raider 1 each with Q7 tractor beam, Gozanti assault carriers with Supressor and Wulff Yularen. 5 squadrons of TIE fighters. Total 297 points.
Rebels: General Dodonna commanding, flagship CR90B Dodonna’s Pride with Princess Leia aboard, GR-75 transports with Torryn Farr, expanded hangar bay, bomber command centre, 2 x Nebulon-B escort frigate, 6 x X-wing squadrons.
Set up: a combination of Fleet Ambush and Hyperspace Assault
General Dodona has collected Princess Leia and the stolen data on the new Imperial weapon system but is pursued by a pair of Imperial Raiders supported by a flotilla of Gozanti assault carriers and two squadrons of TIE fighters. The location of Lord Vader and his flagship is unknown. General Dodonna draws the pursuing Imperials into an ambush zone.

In the first round the forward raider concentrates on attacking the Dodonna’s Pride, in turn it is fired on by the Nebulon Bs, dropping its shields and leaving it vulnerable to attack by three squadrons of X-wings.

The forward Raider is swiftly destroyed but the rear one follows up in order to continue the attack on the Dodonna’s Pride. One of the TIE fighter squadrons is destroyed too.
At the end of turn 1:

However, the beginning of turn 2 sees Lord Vader’s flagship drop out of hyperspace right in the middle of the battle area.

Although it looks vulnerable to the X-wings, the 3 squadrons of accompanying TIE fighters engage them.
Turn 2 sees the Victory destroy one of the Nebulon Bs and the remaining Raider take down the CR90 – however the Raider now has to head away from the battle in order to loop around the asteroids before it can rejoin the fight. The X-wings destroy 3 TIE squadrons but have been held engaged long enough to prevent them attacking the Victory.
Turn 3 opens with the Victory finishing off the GR-75 flotilla and landing hits on the remaining Nebulon B. The cramped battlefield also means there is considerable collision damage – which on the whole favoured the more massive Victory. The last TIE squadron is destroyed.

In turn 4 the last Neb-B is destroyed as is the GR-75 flotilla and the game is halted.
Although there are 5 X-wing squadrons left, their inability to both move and shoot seems to make playing out the two remaining turns moot.

If anyone knows how to get the photos to appear I'd be grateful if they could explain to me!

Typically, you would load them into your personal gallery and then post them by image number like this (no space after the = though):

[imageid= 12345]

You can find the id number in the end of the link when you've clicked on that pic in your gallery.

Sounds like quite a fight. I've never seen small ships carrying the tractor beams before, since they could only affect enemy ships the same size as the Raider or smaller.

Also, once all the Rebel ships were destroyed, the game ends and the Rebels lose, per the rules. You can't continue if one side just has squadrons left.

Looking forward to seeing the pics, if you can get them to show up.

The raiders had the tractor beams to help them to pin and destroy the CR90 with Princess Leia aboard. As the rebel force was all small ships it seemed like a good idea though only one was used and it wasn't critical.

combining Ambush and Hyperspace assault made for an all out battle right from the start

Thanks, I'd figured to upload them but hadn't worked out how the image numbers worked

Lessons learned:

The Imperial force had just enough fighters to hold of the X-wings until the destruction of the transports and the last Nebulon B made it impossible for them to both move and shoot in a round. Had the transports survived to give another Squadron command there would have been considerable damage done to the Victory’s rear arc. So for the Imperials the big lesson is to take along more fighters. The Victory has good survivability; the Raiders do a reasonable job attacking small ships but I wonder whether they might have been better used in this instance as anti-fighter ships to support the TIEs?

For the Rebels? More ways to activate fighters so that they can keep engaging the ships and concentrate force enough to overwhelm opponents quickly.
For both sides the flotillas provided force multipliers and its tempting to add another of each to a fleet (more expense!).
