I moved near to the O2 a few months ago and am wondering if there are any other gamers near here? I work at a media production company. Used to have a regular meet up to play with friends back up north, most people I know down here aren't into playing board games, which is a shame seeing as I have a pretty decent collection.

I game with my girlfriend so there would typically be two of us. I'm also curious if there are any good board game groups that hold regular meet ups?

Check out London on Board, https://www.meetup.com/LondonOnBoard/

I'm in Croydon now which is a bit too far South and West.

Check MeetUp. There should be a group who meets in the Standard, Blackheath; and RP Haven in Lewisham Hospital some at least one board game going on every Wednesday.

what is London On Board like? Are they accepting of new people just turning up?

Yes, but it's quite big so some can find a bit impersonal. Depending how you travel, Croydon Board Gamers is nit that far from you - again, check meetup.

You need to join up and RSVP when you are going. I don't agree that it is impersonal, but we are victim of our own success. As the club is so popular we do have meetings nearly every day of the week. Which makes it easy to go when is convenient for you. However due to the large number of members it may take a few visits before you start to see familiar faces.

My method of getting the best out of LoB was to go there, play games with random people for a few months, and if somebody liked a game I wanted to play and they seemed like nice people I added them on FB and from then on we coordinate to turn up at LoB at the same time. Now I have 2 and a half gaming groups built solely from people I met at LoB

So yes, it's the place to be.
