Hextris scales up nicely for 6 players by adding one more ring of points or hexagons, an increase from 19 to 37. The game ends when a player removes their second group of five pyramids. This variant should also work for 5 or 4 players. I've posted an image of a 6 player game in progress on the BGG Hextris page.
Huh, I don't see any images in the images section atm, although I can click on the rep image. I'm sure you're right that your variant plays well. I introduced Hextris to a gaming group and we had a decent game going with 5 players on the original board. When I designed it, I thought that would be too crowded, but as one gamer pointed out, on a practical level, someone is sure to make a sub-optimal move which allows play to continue.
