It's truly an honor to be nominated as geek of the week.
Thank You, JR!
Please ask me as many questions as you want.
If you take the time to ask, I'll take the time to answer.
I actually taught an English class about asking questions.
I am Odd, but please call me hack.
I'm originally from Syracuse, New York.
But, I've lived in Taiwan for the past 15 years.
My wife Kosette and I have 2 kids, an 8 year old girl and a 4 year old boy.
I have been a graphic designer and artist for over 25 years.
That's what I went to school for.
Teaching has also been my thing for the past 13 years,
8 years of kindergarten and 5 years of high school and jr. high.
I have always liked games but never really knew about the hobby.
We enjoyed party games with the family at the holidays.
I also loved card games like, euchre, spades, pitch and poker.
A little over 3 years ago I was introduced to Catan and Carcasonne.
These games spawned an interest to learn more.
I had about 8 games in my collection at the time.
Now I have over 500.
My wife and I contacted Yoyo from Swan Publishing for a meeting.
We wanted to sell some games in our cafe.
After a few hours I had a couple jobs lined up doing art for games.
I also knew I now had a way to get games made.
That was the start of it all.
I registered for BGG in January 2014,
I spent a few months checking it out before I joined.
At the time it seemed very foreign and complicated.
Now it feels like home.
It was the game design contest section that grabbed my interest.
I stumbled on to the 24 hour design contest.
You need to design a finished print and play game in 24 hours.
I entered it and was hooked, I committed myself to doing it every month.
No matter what.
This month I will enter my 34th straight contest.
Because I'm a teacher I also found myself running contests as well.
The 18 card microgame contest is running now.http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1648402/18-card-microgam...
It's the 6th contest I've hosted.
I also started my own publishing company called Hacko Games.https://www.facebook.com/Hackogames/
I will try to focus on small games for now.
Kickstarter has been amazing.
I have done 6 projects so far and have plenty more lined up.
Check out Gamer Deck.
It's a series of decks to assist game designers.
