Try it for yourself. Type it into Google. Also, see how it's not the same at Bing nor Yahoo. (Btw, this was off of Google.ca)

Really Google? That's your best guess.

Google still has no idea whom I might mean.

Donald Trumpalumpa maybe?

Google is integral to communications today. We allow a corporation to do this very important job because thus far Google seems to be a disinterested actor.

Question everything.

Didn't we just have a thread talking about how this sort of bullshit isn't constructive? We've been through this shit with google several times already. There is nothing political there on the search terms, and who the fuck types an entire damn sentence in, much less asks a question like 'how can I vote for donald trump'. If you ask 'how do I vote' you get hits on trump but not hillary. Like a butterfly flapping its wings, explaining how Google comes up with the instant search results is really complicated, and it doesn't involve politics.

So Isaac-
I guess you'd be voting for Hilary then, based on your Google Analytics!!

Yes, Google's algorithms are a problem, but not in any 'liberal-conservative' divide. Rather, its more the problem that Google is best at helping you find stuff that you already vaguely know is there. Its like when I was a kid and didn't know how to spell a word, and the teacher said "Look it up in the Dictionary!"

Well, if I don't have the slightest clue of how to spell the word, how can I find it? I can only do that trick if I have at least an idea of how it was spelled in the first place.

The same is true with searches on Google. You can only find the things that you're vaguely aware of in the first place- and because humans are lazy and original research is hard, we have a tendency to just look at the first few news sources that we've got bookmarked rather than going out and about to look at new sources. If you're interested in cat pictures, Google and Facebook will fill your feed with silly kitties, and not that much about the prices of concentrated orange juice on the commodities market.

As a side note, I got neither Donald or Hilary when I put in "How do I vote for...". For some insane reason, I got "How do I vote for America's Got Talent??!!" I mean, WTF? I don't even watch that show, except on YouTube, and did you see that cute little Ukelele player the other night??? OMG!!!

Something seems to be sliding more and more of our rztional conservative commentors into the arms of the bloggosphere poison.

I think it is indicative of the death of the center right as a force in politics. Some of us who used to hsng out there began drifting left as we sewrched for the party thst closest matched what we had believed. Others tried to inhabit the void, stolidly but ssdly in vain trying to keep a section of discourse alive that was not only unsupported but actually attscked by their supposed nearest neighbors, the fsr right. You can only stare into the void so long though and in the end constant exposure to the poison of alt-right wewrs away at the mind untill the former rstional righties end up drinking the kool aid just to end the pain.

Okay, so when I type "how do I vote f--" the first thing that pops up is "how do I vote for Donald Trump."

Google search analytics are based on the popularity of previously googled items and your own browser and search history. They even get geo-specific.

What others say - these results are customized according to your previous browsing habits. I don't get the same results as Isaac in the autocomplete bar. The filter bubble has been banged on by e.g. Eli Parisier for several years now.

I'm assuming the geo-influence on results has Canuckistan pretty skewed in favor of HRC. With all of the idiot celebrities threatening to move to Canada if DJT wins, you can bet that Canadians are doing everything they can to ensure Alec Baldwin stays right here.

My list doesn't include Hillary at all.

It's
* How do I vote for trump
* How do I vote for president
* How do I vote for president in texas
* How do I vote for gary johnson
* How do I vote for AGT
* How do I vote for George Springer

The last two are very bizarre.

I'm going to assume BJ is right and geolocation plays a big part in this.

Also, even if it were the case - its not like Google is commissioned (or for that matter 'permitted' by government to supply us with unbiased search. It is private company that does not even have anything resembling monopoly on web search.

They are popular because their algorithms are good but there is plenty of other ways to find information on the web.

Don't like what Google serves you? Use Bing, or DuckDuckGo or Baidu or Yahoo or any other search engine.

Bing. HAAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAH. They were worthless.

Good one Bram.

DDG is almost useless. The results are comically bad at times and it misses a lot of things found by other engines.

Yahoo is worthless. Really bad search engine.

Baidu I haven't tried yet. I thought it was openly self censoring and I thought it was a chinese language search engine.

FYI...
https://www.startpage.com/ is a VPN privatized front end over Google.
