I just got into the gaming scene recently, and i'm just wondering what good war strategy games are out there. Looking for something that's not cut and dry and not boring as well. You can exclude Risk as i find that not challenging no theme and boring. Don't mind the length of play as long as it keeps you engaged and wanting more.

Welcome to the site. There are tons of great wargames available. Are you looking for Axis & Allies, block or cardboard type games.
Maybe something not too complicated or maybe you want to jump into something heavy?
What period of history are you interested in? Let us know and we can help guide you to what will give you the most satisfaction.
Regards.

i'm more into Fantasy, and not really into world history ones like Axis & Allies. Could be either block or cardboard type as long it's appealing and has a good theme and engaging.

Thanks for the quick reply.

For solo play, Mage Knight Board Game is the king of the hill. Highly recommended but it might not be the scale that you're looking for.

If you're OK with buying older, used games, take a look at Wizard's Quest. Avalon Hill printed a lot of them; there are always a few floating around on eBay.

You are right that it's a great solitaire game (which actually does not seem to be important to the OP), but I wouldn't call Mage Knight a "war strategy game".

I would not recommend it here anyway, because it's a really heavy game with a very steep learning curve and we should not forget:

A big +1 to this based on what the OP has written. Nexus Ops, Blood Rage, etc can cover mulitplayer games.

Battle Lore looks pretty interesting, read some reviews and it meets my likings of a Fantasy War Game. Thanks for the reply guys.
