We are working on creating a new board game but had a question on theme. The game started about as a ghost busters type game where you went around the city capturing ghosts and ghouls for money till you trigger the end boss. We have gotten more serious about putting this game out but wanted to change up the theme to avoid copyright issues. So wanted opinions from people here on which theme they would like to see more.

So the game is cooperative and each turn you draw a call card that will tell you how many event cards you place into a set sector of the city. IF any one sector ever gets more than 10 cards it is overun and if you get to many of these you loose the game. If the terror level in the city climbs to high you lose the game as well, so players have to work together to move around the city and clear out these areas. When you reveal a set of combo items you trigger the end game where you look into the book to find out what is happening. So which theme do you find more appealing for a game like this:

There's always Ancient Rome where you could be putting corrupted lares to rest...

I agree with a unique theme it would be nice to see a chunckier silly game theme in your case something like pest exterminators where a town is riddled with pests and when you exterminate enough of them a super bug appears that is ticked that you've been killing the family (think of men in black where Will Smith steps on bugs to get the aliens attention) TIME TO EXTERMINATE HAHA!

I voted for a theme but I don't like any of them.

Space because space. "Oh no, space is going wrong!"

Workers in a sewage treatment plant because of a gap in the poo-themed game market.

Parents in a house full of children during a sugary party. Children are the worst possible disaster scenario.

Crowd control during a riot or concert. You could go either direction with this and have The Man stomping down the little guy or unique members of the crowd against The Man.

Some stupid restaurant theme that my daughter would probably like. "Oh no! That table has too much food!"

The only reason we used titles was to give a general feel for the style of theme and art really. IF we did Gaslamp it wouldn't be exactly like Eldritch horrors style but would be in that same general setting and feeling.

I just find it is easier for some people to have that reference of title to get a feeling for things.
