German tank is immobilized as a result of mine. Soviet infantry wants to go into CC with tank, does entering the mine field trigger the mines going off and is the tank effected.

The Soviet infantry do trigger the mines. The tank is not affected by the mine attack.

Hi Patrick,

As per section 18.3.3 of the rules the infantry unit will trigger the mines and the Tank will not be affected again. Note the red type at the bottom of the section though. Assuming the Soviets placed the mines initially, you could use a couple of CAPs to negatively affect the Die roll thus reducing the probability of the Soviet infantry taking damage. I think that's a reasonable rule. The commander (CAPs) says "Hey guys, don't forget we put mines in that area." You might still get a clumsy infantryman accidentally blowing up the unit as he drops his bottle of vodka.

No problem with the rule interp. I agree, wonder if infantry would set off an anti-tank mine in reality.

I don't know if an anti-tank mine would be triggered by infantry but the Germans did tend to mix anti-tank and anti-personnel mines together. I don't know if the Russians did the same but if not it could just be a game abstraction to keep the rules tight and quick. The two other WW2 tactical games I own (BoB and OST) treat mines differently. I'm not sure which way I find most realistic.

Having spent some time in mined areas in South East Asia I find land mines to be somewhat disturbing.

Hey, here's a thought. Could you just have the Soviet unit throw rocks into the area around the tank in an attempt to set off other mines? A 12 on two dice could simulate a good throw. Adding a CAP could simulate the Lieutenant telling the Russian shot put specialist to heave an extra large stone. You should suggest this to Uwe for the third edition to add some chrome to the game.

Glad to see you're having fun making up your own scenarios.

Funny you should talk about throwing stones. In the book about Soviet anti-tank warfare, they talk about digging holes, place gun powder at the bottom adding wires and filling hole with stones as anti-personal mines.
