We just received the game and expansion.
We played our first two matches. Both 2-1 victories for the boy.

Inevitably, we got a couple of minor things wrong and we'll rectify them the next time that we play.

One thing that he was unable to let got of, but that we couldn't find in the rules... does it matter which player takes the shot?
A 5-attack player performs the same as a 3-attack player when shooting, correct?
It obviously matters where the shot is taken and the value of the attack card and where the goalkeeper goes.

This also means... the value of the defending card makes no difference during a shot. Correct?

Hello Christian.
You are right - in the base game neither the attack value of the shooting player nor the defending card matter (the latter changes when you start using the Snapshot rule, which I strongly encourage you to do). Only in the expansion do players who take shots and defending cards start to come into play.
Btw, I will be doing the promised Team Canada card for you – their value will be 17 stars. Do you want us to do the lineup or would you rather do it yourself once you get to know the expansion better?
Should you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks!

I wanted to make sure that we didn't miss anything.

I'll be sure to come back if we have any more questions.

Regarding Team Canada, thank you very much!
I'd be happy to be involved. Of course, I'll have to familiarize myself with the players.

C.

Sure, take as much time as you need. Once you do, just let me know and apart from sending you the card, I'll try to talk with the guys from Wit-Labs to add Canada to the Companion App. I'm pretty positive they'll have no objections... unless Canada beats Chile somewhere in the meantime

Haha!

I will continue to hold out hope that Canada's program improves.
But we are far, far, far away from competing against Chile.

That is, unless you're talking about the Women's National Team!

Believe it or not, me and Marek watched them last year in June during the World Cup as this was the time we got together to start playtesting the expansion. It was pretty cool - I even had an idea about making women's variant of the game then. I think if I contacted right people it might work out - both Hat-Trick and women's football need more exposure so perhaps they could help one another.
And here's a little article about Carli Lloyd's copy of hat-trick

I have been fortunate enough to watch the Canada Women's National Team in person a few times. It is fascinating.

I coach a youth girls squad and we have enjoyed our outings to see the pros.

Sadly, I have been inundated in various activities and I have not had the opportunity to look at this.

That will do.
Next week I'll get down to work and come back with the ready-made team so you could have a look at it. And if everything is fine I will be sending the Team Card before Christmas.
Thanks!
