I didn't think it would be possible but we ran out minions last night when playing mission 2!! We had to remove the least "in play" and replace them when we killed some minions.

Has anyone else had this happen? I was wondering if we played it wrong. We were completely overwhelmed with minions and lost soblue

Never got past the 2nd tray. I'd double check the escalation conditions and make sure you didn't get a rule wrong.

We came close on Mission 2. Once you're spawning 36 minions per turn, it's very possible to run out.

I don't know what I'd recommend. Because this game is so beautiful, I'd hate to suggest just using proxy tokens. I'd probably just place as many minions as possible, with the players choosing which ones don't get placed. If there are 100 minions on the board, you probably don't have many turns left anyway.

You probably made the same mistake I did.
Do not spawn minions on all three boards, just the board corresponding to the rune die colour that was rolled.

Minion phase:
1. Move the minions as displayed in the mission book. (pretty much straight)
2. Roll the rune die, move all minions on the corresponding board an additional space, and spawn a new wave of minions at the end of that board.
3. Minions deal damage.

This is why no minions are spawned when you roll red.

On the first escalation you immediately spawn a row of minions on the board where the gem was picked up. (+ regular minion phase.)

Second escalation, now all board (except red) move minions an additional space, rune die is now only used to determine where minions spawn.

Third escalation, now 2 full rows are spawned on all boards, so make sure you can grab the crystal and run it back to the school in less than 3 turns.

True, if you hit the third escalation and play a while you may run out of minions. 100 in the box and you need 36 each round. Still the upper row minions only need 3 rounds from there to touch the school...
