WAIT..so you paid over $40 a month to play board games?

I'm assuming the venue was phenomenal and came with free foot rubs.

Why not, NOT pay dues and just hang out with a couple of the people from the "club" that you got along with?

WTF?!

40 a month keeps you up with like three LCGs, and you spent it on some sort of club cult? Get out now. Okay? Get out of there now. There are better groups, particularly in a megacity like New York.

I can dig that I played It Never Snows for 3 months, but...there has to be an alternative. Good luck...

Are you sure they weren't running some kind of scam or something? $40 bucks a month (forty?!?!?!?) for a year only to be disallowed membership by one(!?) guy, and no one will even tell you why he dislikes you? Sounds not just enragingly frustrating, but seriously fishy too.

The guy did you a favor. Send him a proper thank-you note when you figure it out a year from now, it will make you feel better.

sounds like you can go on a daily basis since they have dedicated space and then also leave your games there which is like renting addtl apartment space. in NYC $60 is understandable for that, assuming you go at least once a week, and could be a great deal if you go more than that.

presumably you did some gaming in your 1 year of paying dues, so it wasn't a total waste. but i guess you some games started and now have to be abandoned. maybe the best hope would be to try to get the former members / disgruntled members together in a new group?

The club is in a partially finished basement of a brownstone in Park Slope. The dues cover the rent and are in no way unreasonable in that neighborhood.

Dang! That's a completely different world than what I live in. Another reason I wouldn't want to live there.

I had a feeling when I first saw this thread that another side to the story would emerge.

Some people had issues with me at the begining of my membership because I smoked a lot of weed (still do,) and I obligingly cut my use and was much more discreet about it thinking there would be no problems. Several other members of the club openly smoke and leave paraphernalia out in the open so I never really believed this was an issue.

What the hell?

Not really caring either way about who is right or wrong in this bizarre story, I must say that this club sounds totally sweet. I'd love a place like that - huge tables, accessible anytime, room to leave your game, particularly if I lived in a city like NY.
