The great thing about Dante's Inferno is that it comes with 20 nicely sculpted soft plastic demons. The problem is that, in my experience over several plays of this game, there are very rarely more than 3 demons on the board at any point in the game. The 7 just doesn't get rolled very often, and when it does, the demon is placed as close to a player as possible, so it just gets killed in the next turn or two. So most of the nifty demon figures sit outside the game, unused.
The variant that I now use to fix this problem is simply this:
- A demon comes out on a roll of 6, 7, or 8. (Rolls of 6 and 8 still produce resources as normal.)
I find that with this variant, by the time the game is 2/3 of the way in, all of the demons are on the board, making for a more exciting game. (Or at least a more exciting looking game; it's still not too hard for players to avoid demons, since only one can occupy a space at a time).

How much does this slow the game down? (in your experience)
