Here are the numbers as of November 8, 2016.

DOW Jones:...............18,332.74
Unemployment rate:.......4.9%
GDP growth rate:.........2.9%
Inflation rate:..........1.5%
Median household income:.$51,939
Food stamp participants:.~43 million
Uninsured:...............11%
Average gas price:.......$2.20
(I don't believe a standing President has much control over this, but it was used against Obama when prices were high so I'll be a hypocrite)

All you RSP conservatives mark this thread so you can rub it in when Trump makes America great again and improves them.

He does not care about the debt, even though we're in a stable economy, he's going to spend big.
And being isolationist, he can, for a while, artificialy maintain and even develop low qualified jobs, like in the 50's. At the same time, education will be costlier than ever, to profit to specific interests.
In the meantime, China, India, Europe will continue to increase the qualification of their citizens, and automation will continue to spread.
Needless to say, there will be a rupture point at some time, but most likely in more than 4 years. And when this happens, we'll be crumbling under our debt and left with 10s of millions of completely in-adapted workers. And we'll be lucky if we get there, that'll mean that we did not wage a destructive war by then.

I think Trump prefers sort of America that existed around the time of Mad Men.

That's a right wing myth. Unemployment numbers have always been treated that way.

Thirteenth International Conference of Labour Statisticians (October 1982)

http://www.ilo.org/public/english/bureau/stat/download/res/e...

Unemployment 10. (1) The "unemployed" comprise all persons above a specified age who during the reference period were:

(a) "without work", i.e. were not in paid employment or self-employment as defined in paragraph 9;
(b) "currently available for work", i.e. were available for paid employment or self-employment during the reference period; and
(c) "seeking work", i.e. had taken specific steps in a specified recent period to seek paid employment or self-employment. The specific steps may include registration at a public or private employment exchange; application to employers; checking at worksites, farms, factory gates, market or other assembly places; placing or answering newspaper advertisements; seeking assistance of friends or relatives; looking for land, building, machinery or equipment to establish own enterprise; arranging for financial resources; applying for permits and licenses, etc.

OK... but if you mean completely eliminating the program and leaving the poor in the cold, that's not a net gain.

If there are less people on food stamps after a few years, that is a win.
Obama has done nothing but INCREASE the number.

I find it highly unlikely that Trump will END food stamps.

Seems fair enough. I'll add it. But if the program is altered or has money cut then it won't be a fair comparison.

EDIT: You said Obama has done nothing but increase the number, but the article to which you linked said the number has been going down since 2010.

Really? How is unemployment measured in the USA. That's very low, I was under the impression it was closer to 10%?

The standard unemployment number is only counted for people who are actually out trying to find a job. That is how every country does it. If someone doesn't want to work they aren't 'unemployed'. For example, a stay at home mother or someone who is independently wealthy and doesn't need to work, or a student attending college, etc.

Yes... Republicans switch from citing U-6 as the "real" unemployment rate, back to U-3, in 3.. 2.. 1...
