We are working on a printing of Evolution where we bring the price down to $40. Part of the cost reducing means the removal of the food bags. Instead we will be putting in 6 small tri-folded pieces of card stock (like a mini GM screen.)

What do you think we should call them?

I went with "Food Screens" in keeping with the more common terminology used within most games I'm familiar with.

As a further thought, may I suggest referring to the area behind the screens where the food tokens are stored as the Hoard?

I went Food Screens as well, but I like both Thud105 and Goemon12677's suggestions.

Since I want to be helpful and then 'helpful' I voted Food Screen because it makes the most linguistic sense.

So, with that, here's my 'help': now that the tokens are 'on the table', you guys are going to have to come up with a mechanic that lets us take risks with our collected tokens. Tons of rules overhead, needless complication, but hoo boy would it be fun to, say...

Proposed Carnivore Attack Incentive / High Stakes Evolutionary 'Leaps'

Purpose: It's Friday, there's a newly mutated stub of a mechanic dangling on one of my favorite games, why not give it some encouragement? New players often wait to use Carnivores to attack at the end of the feeding phase; higher level play sees players use their carnivores earlier in order to deny points to opponents. Why not build in an impetus to encourage earlier carnivore feeding with threat of the Watering Hole running out of food before all non-carn species feed?

New Rules:

When a Carnivore successfully attacks a species, the owner of the Prey species reduces the Prey species population by one. The carnivore then collects food as follows equal to the Body Size of the prey:
1) DIRECTLY from the prey species board; if empty then-
2) From the Prey species owner's stash of Food Tokens; if empty then-
3) From the Supply

At any time during the Adapt phase, a player may discard Food tokens from their stash for the following benefits:

3 Food = Gain one Body Size or Population for one of the player's species
(Option: Also permit the lowering of Body Size)
4 Food = Exchange the position of two species boards in the player's tableau
5 Food = Draw one Trait card

In my head, on a lunch break, this would do the following:

* Carnivores would attack much earlier in the round
* Prey species would struggle more to Hibernate / Burrow
* Discourage players from creating 1/1 traitless species to spam for cards and often just creating feeding frenzies for savvy players sitting on a Carnivore trait (this is already somewhat remediated by permitting discards for draws at the end of the Adapt phase in the Climate rules)
* Gives the player a high stakes option in the situations where "JUST. ONE. MORE. CARD." would help them pull off something tremendous
* Needlessly complicate the game, probably throw off the Carnivore balance, and incite Dominic to reply and explain for like the ten thousandth time that Carnivore is perfectly balanced already kisskiss

So, what exclusives (beyond the sure-to-be gorgeously illustated screens) are you guys going to put in this new box for those of us who buy one of everything anyway? Can't ask for another bonus foodbag like the Fat Tissue one we got with Beginning. Maybe alt art for Migratory or new crazy Climate Events as teasers for folks to buy Climate?
