What is your favorite game to introduce new gamers to the board gaming world?

Tonight I'm doing this very thing, a few old friends of ours who know we';re into board gaming but have always politely said, "no thanks" have now accepted out invitation for a night of board gaming.

My wife asked me to please NOT bust out Power Grid & Puerto Rico to our friends, lol!

She wants us to play Smart Ass or Mad Gab but I am thinking maybe Codenames: Pictures and The Resistance.

Oh, to answer your question; I feel like I would want to use Stone Age or Lords of Waterdeep

My favorite games to introduce to non-gamers are Codenames and Skull. Both are easy to learn but have surprisingly deep gameplay.

The classic. Ticket to Ride. It's just so easy to teach and still feels like a full board game.

I've also had a ton of success with Bohnanza. It can play a wide range of player counts. The negotiations in it keep the interaction high and it's just different enough to give people a taste of how a game can be different than what they are used to.

For Sale is the ultimate fallback game. No matter the person, they can understand how to play it and it's short enough they are willing to give it a chance.

My favorite intro game is Carcassonne, but I've had a lot more success with Ticket to Ride.

Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Splendor

In addition, I've used Elder Sign to good effect. I recently got Champions of Midgard and think it might work with the right crowd.

Ghost Blitz and Skull are my go-to games for bringing to a bar (and potentially playing with new gamers). They're quick to learn, play, and produce a lot of laughs.

My wife loves introducing people with Sushi Go! because it's so darned cute. (And truly, people go nuts for the cuteness.)

If I sense that the new gamers would enjoy strategy, then I'll try Splendor or Qwirkle. Again, quick to learn and play.

Or, if I sense that strategy shouldn't be at the forefront, I go for Castle Crush!, which actually does have strategy, but not in a way that feels intimidating, or that will make you feel bad if your strategy isn't working. This one also produces laughs. And, there are catch-up mechanisms.

If someone hasn't played many board games, but HAS played a ton of card games (as in, their family played a ton of Hearts and Gin Rummy growing up), then I'll try Arboretum!

I really like to use Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne.
I've had moderate success with The Castles of Burgundy as well.

2-player: Carcassonne
3-player: Through the Desert
4-player: König von Siam

In general I like games that use all of their rules all of the time, but other factors are considered.

I've used Pandemic, Stone Age, and various Ticket to Ride editions.
A list of other intro games could include Africana, Thebes, and New York 1901.

Kremlin. I prefer to take something of a "sink or swim" approach with new gamers. It's worked so far.
