Our latest game almost turned into a live-action version of Conan,
(but with much nerdier barbarians).

It stemmed from the first scenario, (Clutches of the Picts).
Several turns in, Hadrathus discovered Yselda in Hut #7, with just
one Pict still inside. Zogar Sag was close to Conan & Shevatas, so
naturally you go for half of the victory conditions there & then.
Conan tells Hadrathus to "Get to da choppa!", & so he grabs Yselda,
spends 3 Gems & teleports off the South edge of the board.
(Cue fireworks).

Yes, the Teleportation Spell says "move your model to an adjacent
space", but there was much arguing as to what constitutes an
'adjacent space'. PLUS; it's a feckin' Teleportation Spell! It's not
going to be of much use if it can't get you through a picket fence!

(Game is still on pause)

Sorry to be the party pooper, but Hadrathus can't use teleport if he is carrying Yselda since she weighs 6 and he loses spellcasting at 5 encumbrance.

As for teleport it costs one to activate and then 1 per space you are moving, if that addresses what your question was.

Caibre is right, and to also answer, you can move through whatever structure with teleport--walls, stone, anything. Just imagine there are no walls. 1 gem to activate Teleport, 1 gem per adjacent space moved through.

And yeah, no teleport carrying the thick ol' princess

Hadrathus is basically teleporting through each area, ignoring whatever terrain feature there is... like when you're watching a movie and the wizard goes *bamf!* and disappears from one location and appears in another.

You're just counting areas to know how many gems you need to pay.

Keep in mind you pay the activation cost every time to teleport, so if you Nightcrawler into one hut, discover it empty, and go to the next one, that costs 1 extra gem every time. So if you start two spaces from a hut, it costs 3 to get inside. Sorry, Mario, your princess is in another castle, so you teleport to another hut 2 spaces away - and that costs another 3 gems.

If you rest for your first turn, Hadrathus can zap himself around the map pretty fast. It's one of the most important ways the heroes can win that map.

But yeah, he can't teleport with the princess. He can't do those wacky hand gestures while he's got a girl draped over one shoulder.

So our Overlord was right after all. Damn it! We'll never hear the end of this one.
Thanks, BGGeekers for clearing that one up; we completely overlooked the spell casting encumbrance.
Who knew that your ability to channel the mighty powers of the magical realm could be nullified by
slinging a hefty lass over your shoulder?

oops. teleport with the princess to win last nights game. It was a very close game and had 1 gem left to teleport and the enemy was in the zone. Probably would have lost. Oh well. whistle

Same for Shevatas, if he carries the princess he loses is ability to move freely.

The scenario explicitly defines her weight as 6.
