There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary: Those who do, and those who don't.

I just saw a sign at a store:

We make shopping simple for you. Your Welcome!

angry angry angry angry

An apostrophe is used when there is a missing letter in a word or phrase!! Simple as that!

If you are trying to say, "You are welcome", then for f@$#'s sake use a G.D. apostrophe, would you?!

angry angry angry angry

You're = You are
The apostrophe takes the place of the letter A in "are".

Don't = Do not
The apostrophe takes the place of the letter O in "not".

'twas = It was
The apostrophe takes the place of the letter i in "it"

Fish 'n' chips = Fish and chips
The apostrophes take the place of the letters A and D in "and"

Do you see a pattern emerging?

"Your" is possessive.
Your house belongs to you. So does your car.

Your spelling is atrocious if you think that "your" means "you are". IT DOESN'T!!

They had a 'welcome'. They gave it to you. Your Welcome.

What should be bothering you is that you still understood what it meant, even though it was wrong. If it was really wrong, you wouldn't have understood it, or you would've understood the wrong meaning. But you didn't. So... was it wrong? Or are the rules wrong? Why does that rule exist, if it's (apparently) unneeded?

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

Pardon my ignorance. 3 years since my last visit to big and beautiful Canada, plus non-native English speaker, but does many non-teenagers write like that? It was my impression that this kind of thing only happen in teenagers.

BTW, is 'twas common? For me it looks horrible.

The other one that really gets me is when they put the ampersand up backwards on those sign boards.

In my town, the coffee shop and the school get this wrong all the time.
Ok, coffee shop, fine, whatever (typical ignorant hicks)... but the school!? for frick's sake!

And speaking of the school... I am appalled at the never ending incorrect spellings and poor grammar on the flyers the kid brings home. Sad. But I'm sure that spending even more school-bond money on hi-tech gizmos, counseling, and multi-cultural bullshit will fix it.

My favorite was a banner put up by a disgruntled household when the light rail expanded right by their house. For a year, we had to zoom by those big letters:

'twas is not common, at least not en el Estados Unidos.

And that style of writing is used by teenagers, others who want to emphasize angry rants and

Obligatory "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" reference here (which I will note is, whilst correctly written, also a very poorly and un-interestingly written book, a fact rather disappointing to learn).

Why is it so difficult? Because for most people this sort of thing does not matter. There are more important concerns. In this case, slipping a slogan gently into the subconscious of customers in an attempt to engineer a preference that the quality of merchandise or service provided obviously fails to generate.
