So World's Fair 1893 has been one of my top games this year and it made me look into this game. It looks interesting, but I'm unsure if I would like it.

Anyone have thoughts who have played both games?

Gold West is a little more puzzle-ly than World's Fair, but I'd say if you like World's Fair you will likely enjoy Gold West as well.

I actually think that Gold West is Alex's best game. I like it better than World's fair... note though it's a bit heavier/more involved, but not a lot. It's always been a hit when I've taught or played it.

Edit: I guess I haven't played many other games by Alex, so saying that I think it's his best game maybe just means I like it better than World's Fair

I liked this a lot more than world's fair. The decisions seemed far less obvious.

Edit: Looks like you got three thumbs up!

Well, this makes me feel better now. I didn't even know about World'a Fair earlier this year and tried it without expectations. Turned out I loved it. It was simple to pick up and also teach. I felt like it had a lot of depth for such simple rules.

If this is deeper than WF, I think I may have found a winner now.

Thanks everyone who replied so far!

Daxu is a fun and extremely quick 2p game. It's kinda a rock-paper-scissors mechanic where it's about trying to figure out which card you think your opponent will play. Highly recommend that one if you play 2p only games

Of course I've been up all night! Not because of caffeine, it was insomnia. I couldn't stop thinking about coffee.

Gold West is excellent. I don't think anyone I've played it with has ever not liked it. They don't all like it as much as I do, but it's always well received. World's Fair is good, but it is a bit too light for me and my groups.

I liked World's Fair so much I went and purchased Gold West, and then Daxu. All Alex Kevern's games seem to have an elegance; a relatively simple ruleset, which leads to interesting decisions within a very reasonable timeframe. :-)

Absolutely. Gold West plays almost like a collection of mini games, and the number of paths to victory are numerous. It and World's Fair are among my most favorite games, and certainly the ones that get played most often. If you like World's Fair, it's a safe bet you'll appreciate Gold West as much or more.
