Hello,

I'm looking for some ideas about a good solo wargame. Here are some characteristics I'm looking for - or not.

Length: I don't care much, as long as games are rather fluid.

Theme: WWI or WWII are best, but I can do with VietNam or recent theaters (Cold War or Afghanistan). Avoid older wars (Napoleon, Crusades...)

I'm not much into planes and boats/submarines. Better with infantry/tanks.

Ideally, no flowchart or simple ones. I have tried Andean Abyss and Labyrinth War on terror. I think they're a bit too much for my brain to digest and play fluidly. I also played Churchill and it wasn't that bad.

I love card driven games, with a minimal amount of dice rolling.

Can you suggest anything fitting most of my tastes?

It's not what you're looking for weight-wise, I'm sure, but it checks all the boxes otherwise: Sans Alliés

D-Day at Omaha Beach should be your top choice
Card driven, no dice, ww2, no flowcharts, 3hrs long

Any game by John Butterfield would work for you. My favorites are the D-Day games (Omaha, Tarawa, Peleliu). He's also made Ambush, Enemy Action: Ardennes, and more. But personally, the D-Day games are so good, I have a hard time recommending starting with anything else, given your requirements.

Another game that fits your criteria is Fields of Fire, but it's a little heavy on the fiddly side so I don't play it any more (I keep meaning to go back to it though).

My favorite boardgames are tactical level wargames, action/dexterity, adventure/story telling, and civilization/4x style!
