This discussion inspired me the idea that there could be upgradable traits, which, from the moment you slip 1-2 cards under it, acquire new abilities.

Fertile + 1 card: Before the food cards are revealed, gain 1 population.

Climbing + 1 card: may access the cliff.

Foraging + 1 card: when this species takes food, take 1 additional food from the same source.

Burrowing + 1 card: ignore 1 unfed population when determining if this species is hungry.

Fat tissue + 1 card: at the end of the Play cards phase, if Fat tissue is empty, you may lose 1 body size.

Rough ideas, but I think there’s something to do here, even if it’s just with new trait ideas.

What's the benefit of losing body size?

Symbiosis, climate, putting horns on and becoming less attractive.

But yeah, that fat tissue idea is my least favourite.

Oh, another one, to build on another topic:

Symbiosis:
cannot be attacked if the species to the right has a larger sum of body size + population

+1 card: cannot be attacked if the species to the right has a larger body size

Becoming less attractive to predators?
In Evolution: Climate, it would be handy to avoid die-off due to Warming...

There is a discussion about losing body size here.
