Hi! I had the idea to start a new blog series where I dive deeply into a single game and try to cover it from many angles. Often times, coverage for a game is lightning fast and it just dips into it from a review perspective. I wanted to stick around a bit longer and focus.

My first Quagmire is all about Rex: Final Days of an Empire, but also, a bit about Dune.

You can read the entire series of posts: http://hyperbolegames.com/blog/quagmire-issue-1-rex

Individually linked:

You should make a list of all the games you want to talk about so that I can subscribe them.

Well, they are originally posted on my blog if you care to follow. I'll try to do at least one per month. I have the next one planned (and will start writing it next week probably), but won't announce it until I know all the pieces will come together.

The next issue is going to be big!

Really cool project. I like this sort of analysis over the one-and-done reviews. this is how i play my games. I study them, i crave them, i live and breathe them. Don't care much for the "new hottness" approach of playing something a max of 3 times then tossing it for the next thing.

(not that there arent fantastic new games coming out, just that i prefer to savor one game before getting the next)

Hmm, do you mean Geek List? If so, that's a good idea. I didn't think about that at first as...I'm not a very good BGG user.

Exactly, that's what I meant.
You are not a very good BGG user? Because you don't care or because it's too complicated? If you manage to handle a website than making a Geeklist won't be that kind of a problem.

It's a mix of:
- not fond of forums
- generally not a power user
- BGG is sometimes tough to use

Not a big deal. I can figure it out.

Really, really enjoyed this writeup. Very thoughtful and insightful - and I especially enjoyed the Q&A aspect of it.

Great game, both of them. Wish Rex could hit the table more often, though that's probably everyone's complaint...

Nonetheless, great writeup. That's more insightful on the tactics than anywhere else I've read, for the most part. Makes me think I should read up a little bit more on this one.

And, if you do a Geeklist, please be sure to post it in this thread. I'll definitely follow it!

Thanks again for the time you put into that. It definitely shows.

You mentioned there wouldn't be an expansion - almost as if you had some inside information on that. Anything behind that? I would like an expansion, but am not expecting one myself.

No inside info. I don't think Rex was super well received. It isn't really in stock right now.

Generally looking at FFG lately, their first priority is Star Wars, second priority their LCGs. Which is fine as I rabidly consume both. But it means side games like Rex and some others seem to be phased out.

Thanks for the kind words and reading! This is a series I hope to keep doing. I'll make a geeklist for part two and I'll post here.
