I invented my own variant of this game based on the following simple rules.

One player gets to use all of the components to build a mega castle with all of the blocks, men, flags etc. The other person then just plugs away and works out how many shots it takes them to knock over every single one of the other person's pieces. Then you swap roles and whoever took the least number of shots wins the game. Sometimes it came down to wasting 5 or so shots at the end of the game to knock over the measly little flag at the corner of their area while the rest of the area was completely destroyed to oblivion!

This variant was also useful as I'd snapped a number of flags off at the base and lost a few men so it didn't matter anymore that I didn't have all of the pieces anymore.

I reckon it used to take me around 40 or so shots to wipe everything out!
