Events Roundup:
Ludo Outaouais 2016 was a blast! The new venue was roomy with several different spaces. Hosted by the friendly folks at Ludo Outaouais. I was able to learn several new (to me) games like Railroad Revolution, Steam Time, as well as play some favourites like Mombasa, Xia: Legends of a Drift System and Eclipse. A big thank you to the organisers for such a well run event! I did see several Kanata Board gamers out there, so do tell what you played!

There is a meeting of the Kanata Board Gamers every Thursday; next one is 1 December 2016. The start time for the session is 6pm till approximately 11pm.

We meet at the Kanata Community Christian Reformed Church (KCCRC) at 46 Castlefrank Rd, which is beside the Hazeldean Public Library. There is parking outside. Just go straight through the doors facing the lot, and you can't miss us!

$2.50 will be collected from each person. The first $30 collected is donated to our gracious venue. Any left over will go into our board game library fund. Members can borrow from the library any time. Borrow it one session, bring it back for the next.

Visitors are always welcome. Come on in and check us out! There is no obligation, but if you decide to become a member it only costs $7.50 and entitles you to 10% discount cards at select local games stores.

Note if you want the discount cards (for Fandom II, Mrs. Tiggy Winkles, and Comic Book Shoppe), let Steve know, and he'll have them made up. 100% of the $7.50 fee goes to CanGames 2016 to support kids games, and the cards are good for 1 calendar year from the month you get them.

Feel free to use this forum thread to discuss what to play!

If by some miracle I can make it out to the club in the next while, I'll be bringing 18Africa which was played at Ludo.
Here is a link to the rules:

Dave, Jonathan, Chris, and +1: a Colonial rematch? I have codified the Nations variant rules and based on another reference, created a summary that should help (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/140232/colonial-natio...)

.... or we could wait 6 months so we forget the rules meeple

I'm bringing Rolling Stock, a stock game reminiscent of 18xx but without trains or a board.

I'm in. I've probably already forgotten the rules.

Pax Renaissance never made it to the table.

Just as well because Andy brought Terraforming Mars one of the games I'd been looking forward to playing and perhaps buying after reading all the hype on BGG.

Andy did an excellent job of explaining the rules to Chris, Leo, Tim and myself, all new to the game.
Game took about 3.5 hours to play, which is understandable considering nobody knew what strategy to pursue. Andy handily won the game over Chris by 10 points. Leo came in third and Tim and I tied for 4th place.

Terraforming Mars is a clever game. Simple to learn with beautiful components and graphically pleasing to the eye.

Some quick thoughts. As much as I enjoyed playing TM I just didn't feel that their was much tension throughout the game. Players more or less get to develop their own tableau without the need to worry about other player interfering with their plans.

Overall a great game but one that I no longer feel compelled to own.

Good summary Jason. I think I need to play it once or twice more before I decide to buy it or not.
Personally, I love the "solitaire" aspect. It means no one else can screw up my 'perfectly' constructed strategy.
