The title says it all. I was hoping to find a copy of Carcassonne: The Castle for a gift, but, that's not happening, so, I'm branching out in my search. I don't think he would care for Patchwork.

One I am very interested in is Citrus (can be bought as a import from places like Miniature Market and Gamesurplus).

I quite enjoy Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King as a 2-player game, but it is definitely better with more. The same is true of Cacao (which I am interested in again since the expansion Cacao: Chocolatl was released).

I like Indigo a lot and it's probably the most beautiful game I own. Plays differently with each player count (2, 3, or 4).

Regular old Carcassonne works just as well with 2 players as the Castle.

We actually like the regular version better than Castle. Plus you can get expansions for the regular one and add some variety.

But to throw in another suggestion, maybe Karuba?

Also Lanterns: The Harvest Festival (2-4).

There are more levels to the gameplay than first meets the eye.

My favorite Carcassonne!

The Little Prince: Make Me a Planet plays wonderfully with two. It's lots of fun.

Kingdomino is another good tile laying game. It plays two, although the 'bidding' for turn order is slightly more fun with more players.

Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King was one of my favorite games from BGG con. It plays two, but I haven't tried it with two.

Costa Rica is a tile revealing game, rather than tile laying, but it plays nicely with two as well.

Good luck with your search. There's lots of great ideas here already.

Good one, though I highly recommend the "Improved Dirk" variant , which can be found somewhere in the game's forum. Can't play 2p Alhambra anymore without it.

Otherwise, we ourselves enjoy Suburbia and Isle of Skye, though neither of these games was specifically developped for 2p.

+1 Great two player game if you can track it down - can be quite a brain burner at times though! Isle of Skye is also great, however the meat of the game is more on setting prices than laying tiles!

I wouldn't say "much" improved; only slightly. It's still a fantastic 2-player game.

And there are a lot of people out there who believe it is actually best with 2.
