Wasn't this a complete reworking, counters, map and rules? I don't know that much about the original, but it really seems this should be a separate BGG entry and "Reimplemented by"

The strange thing is that the cover art for the 1990 edition now wears the cover of the new edition on its game page - what could be more confusing!

Perhaps a rep from GMT could add another page and sort out the primary image selection for both pages?

Great game design makes the complex simple, replayability maximum, and abstraction credible.

It’s not how well you roll that counts but how well the dice suit the game.

The stats would make more sense.

Was the 25th ed submitted as a new game by a bgg user? I'm not sure how it works but it seems like a new game gets entered into a list and when it comes out it has It's own forum. If it doesn't get added, the reprint just gets added right onto the old version.

Doesn't bother me personally, this forum isn't that busy. Maybe a bgg admin could split the two apart if it's bothering enough users.

What a great wargame btw, been tinkering with it since it came out. Probably deserves a 25th ed forum.

Yes. I understand it was not a total redo, but significant changes were made. The game engine was streamlined, counters and map updated, mounted map. Enough to deserve it's own entry. IMHO...

I was about to submit it, but checked the pending submissions and it's there... so thanks whoever did that.
