This game was really hot topic for a moment, but now everything calmed down, and there isn't even much to talk about. It's like the hype train stopped and everyone left it, and goes back to their lives on next station. People working in my favorite flgs in my country told me that people stopped bugging them for preorder of dunwich, and asked for advice in choosing other board game gifts for xmas.

This person at your FLGS. Was he trying to throw you off the trail? Was he a stout, shrewd-faced agent, whose speech shewed him to be no local man?

This is how I picture this conversation going:
"Hey, normally I'd be bugging you about the Dunwich expansion right now, but I'm not going to do my normal routine. Instead, I'd like to choose another board game for Xmas. You see, there can be only one Xmas board game."

- Number 2 on the hotness
- Steadily moving up the rankings
- No 1 in the customisable category (which is a whole other discussion...)
- tons of talk here on BGG
- in the FFG forums
- on the subreddit
- in the discord channel
- There's 2-3 really good and active blogs
- a few decent new dedicated youtube channels
- An amazing podcast
- They've already announced and previewed the first 3 expansions
- which all look awesome, showcase the design space, amazing locations and interesting characters of the game
- There's a brilliant POD side scenario
- A range of playmats

Oh and the game has only been out for 3 weeks!?

I think it's doing OK...

It was my life, like all lives, mysterious and irrevocable and sacred. So very close, so very present, so very belonging to me. How wild it was to let it be.

even hype may die

When the game is not out yet, people jabber about it.

Now that the game is out, people are playing it instead of posting saying how much they want it.

Hype is personal perception. It's irrelevant - sales matter.

I just checked and 70 separate threads on BGG have had activity in the last two days alone.

While you and the people you know may not be talking about it, the world is much bigger than that.

Awaiting the obligatory "the game was dead 3 months ago" posts :)

Seriously, though. Every board game has a peak of hype, that lasts usually a week or two, after it is released. It all calms down after that and, if the game is good, translates into slowly paced forum post influx. But there's only so much to talk about here. It's just 3 scenarios. By now, most people probably have beaten them and moved on to the next thing. We will come back when Dunwich is here.

"Hype" is not the same as "interest"

It's a bit like the difference between "happiness" and "contentment". One is a temporary state of mind and not something you can exist in permanently because you'd never get anything done. A life of contentment with frequent peaks of happiness is a perfect life indeed.

Similarly a gaming life of interest with peaks of hype for new releases is, for me, the perfect gaming life to lead.

Yes, the Hype is dying. The Interest, however, continues.

Hype for a boardgame ?

What is that ? 30k people interested out of a population of 7 billion ?

LOL.

I think you mistake your personal perception with general trends...

I was hyped these last few weeks for the 7 Year War and the 1757 Battle of Leuthen and its different board wargames...

I am pretty sure a boardgame FUN is the least influenced by ... hype...

To be honest, I think this thread has already kinda tied itself up in a neat bow now. No need to flog a dead horse, so here's a shale drill:

More local FLGS was out of copies and ordered 6 more and they were already all preordered. So even once they arrive they will still be out of copies. I would say the hype is only starting.

The people who are interested enough to get in early have done so. Now they're too busy playing and talking about the game to notice that it is not being hyped anymore. The next thing that can be delivered is weeks away possibly.

Did this FLGS employee also mention that your favorite band sucks too?

Yeah, the game is dead, it is a disaster of biblical proportions. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... FFG closing its doors! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Based on all the people wasting time commenting on this thread I would say your right, I think all of them have AH:LCG and are not playing it but instead trying to mock you. Must be an average game
