The capsule review by John Miller mentions that the designer had also written five novels on the topic. Apparently a great deal of sailing science is covered in rules which permit tacking, wearing, and taking on and off sail, kedging, scudding, club-hauling, etc. The review praises the compromise between playability and reality. Simultaneity -- always a problem in games of this type -- is handled by rolling for initiative and moving ships one at a time. There is a critical hits table as is common for naval games. The game can also be combined with the Privateers & Gentlemen roleplaying system for the full "Horatio Hornblower" experience. Really the reviewer can't seem to find anything wrong with the game at all except that half the illustrations -- the modern drawings -- are not very informative or interesting.
