I Recently purchased Champion of the galaxy trough the author's web site.
The web site is rather daunting as there's so many version or expansion to choose from. So I Opted for 'New beginning' wich was advertised as a good entry point for beginners. I received the game quickly afterward.

As other rewiewer said the game is very atmospheric and as a lot of wrestling feel. The artwork in true comics style are good. The game is also very easy to learn ans play.

BASIC GAME:
In the basic game the attacker throw a dice and read the result on his character sheet then the opponent make a defense roll and read the result on his own sheet. Then either the defender can counterattack or the attacker can attack again possibly with a more dangerous blow.
Play alternate beetween the two wrestlers until either player is pinned
down or disqualified.

The basic gameplay is throw a dice and read the result, there's no decision making.

ADVANCED GAME:
So I moved quickly to the advanced game, there's many options too choose from, as they're all simple and clear I try to used them all at once. The game run smoothly, the advanced game use all character's attribute so every wrestlers as a more different feel. You have a few decision to take, on some occasion you can choose to reroll your attack, and some attack allow a choice beetween to effect. But the choice are pretty obvious.

There's a number of match type to choose from, The one I prefered is
'Tag-team' each player have two wrestler so it had a number of choice for each coach, as you can try to 'pass the hand' to your partner when things get tough.

OUR OWN VARIANT:
We also made our own league were each player draft a number of wrestler to make his own team, whe choosed 5 or 7 wrestler's each, then we play until each wrestler as made one match scoring one point for each win.
One player choose one of his wrestler and then the opponent choose who will fight against it, the winner have to choose his wrestler first for the next match,
This add a little strategy.

CONCLUSION:
The game is fun and fast to play. It has almost everythings you can wait from a wrestling game for example there's even a rule that allow a 'friend' or people in the crowd to interfere in the match.

It play like a role playing game in that you are encouraged to act your wrestlers and add 'Take that!' or other trash talking as you made your attack.
By the way the game could be a good replacement for other role playing game's fighting system, as a fight is very lively and fast enough.

You can also use it as a 'party game' to warm up the atmosphere in you gaming session.

But you should note that there's little in term of decision making so people looking for a game of strategy may be disapointed. Note that making your own league can improve this.

Most wrestling fans will probably love it.

Overall I was happy with my purchase, as it make an novel addition to my game list.I wil play it then and again whith the right people and when in the right mood.

Being an old-school CotGer, I really suggest buying the first GWF set printed. Thantos and Star Warrior really pulled me in as a kid and the allure of that set still stands today.
