There are some differences between the published English Vatican and the translation provided by Pitt Candlemire that's posted here on boardgamegeek.
(1) In the published version, only one player can place an advisor in each column. In Pitt's version, *each* player can place one advisor in each column. (In both versions, there is a maximum of one advisor allowed per herald symbol).
(2) Also, in Pitt's version, when placing an advisor in the Vatican, the color of the joker pair of cards must be different from the color of the herald symbol that you're placing the advisor on. In the published version, there is no requirement that the cards' color be different from the herald symbol color.
(3) The published version seems to imply that an advisor in the cloister column doubles the number of cloisters that you have placed in that region. The Pitt version instead says that you double the *score* that you would have gotten for your cloister placement in that region.
Anyone can verify which of these interpretations are correct?

I got an answer from Mik Svellov on spielfrieks. Turns out that Pitt's translation has points 2 and 3 correct, while the published English version has point 1 correct. Here is Mik's answer:

>>(1) In the published version, only one player can place an advisor in each column. In Pitt's version, *each* player can place one advisor in each column. (In both versions, there is a maximum of one advisor allowed per herald symbol). "In jeder Spalte darf jeweils nur ein Rat stehen." - There may only be one Advisor in each column." The above is my translation of the German rules. The example following that line makes it even more clear:
"If, for example, there is an Advisor on the Frankish weapon in the Cloister column can an Advisor NOT be placed on the Bavarian, Lorraine or English weapon of THAT column." > > (2) Also, in Pitt's version, when placing an advisor in the Vatican, the color of the joker pair of cards must be different from the color of the herald symbol that you're placing the advisor on. In the published version, there is no requirement that the cards' color be different from the herald symbol color.
"To place an Advisor on the Vatican board must you play a Joker, ie. 2 cards of the same color. The Joker cannot be made from cards of same State as the weapon placed." > > (3) The published version seems to imply that an advisor in the cloister column doubles the number of cloisters that you have placed in that region. The Pitt version instead says that you double the *score* that you would have gotten for your cloister placement in that region. "Cloister Scoring: If a player has an Advisor in a Cloister column is the score he would receive for that state according to the normal rules doubled." Hope this helps. Mik ............................
To summarize, these are the correct rules:
(1) There can be only one advisor maximum in each column. (2) When placing an advisor in the Vatican, the color of the joker pair must be different from the color of the herald symbol you are placing the advisor on. (3) An advisor in the cloister side doubles the score you would normally receive for your cloisters in that region.
