While I bought both Christian Fluxx and Jewish Fluxx a while ago, I hadn't introduced them yet to our lunchtime Fluxx group. There are 4 regulars and another 4 who play when they're around.
I normally keep the Fluxx box in my bottom drawer so that anyone can grab them if I'm not around. While the group knew I had the expansions, I finally brought them to work and decided to clandestinely shuffle them in. 'course they no longer fit in the box so I rubber-banded them together. Also if one looked at the side of the deck, one could see where the new cards where. For whatever reason, with shuffling they tended to clump together. The orignal cards are well worn and we have 160 games to date on them.
As luck had it, I wasn't at my desk and one of the regulars grabbed them and the box and our score sheet (we play for a penny a card - it changes the dynamics a bit). I got to the designated card playing table and they were already dealt out.
I ended up with a new card but decided to wait. Sure enough the next player drew and said 'what the h&!!?' He showed everyone and everyone was now privy to the fact that we had the expansions in play.
It wasn't long after that (due to the new cards clumping together) that the keeper Cross was laid down. The next player got the action Steal a Keeper and said as he played it "I just don't feel right about this" as he stole the keeper Cross. We were laughing and contemplating whether it was ok to steal the Cross or the Bible for that matter!
I was the first person with action Bible Verses. Coincidentally like the other session review I quoted John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" and was able to play all three cards.
As the game continued that card found its way into another player's hand. As he played it he 'quoted the Bible' saying "Feed a man a fish and he eats for the day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime". I started to laugh and said that that wasn't in the Bible. He said that although he didn't know where it was, that he was sure it was in there somewhere. He's not a church-goer and the other non-church-goer playing agreed with him that that was in the Bible. It certainly wasn't worth arguing over and we all agreed he could play 2 of the 3 cards. (After lunch he looked it up and apparently it might be a Chinese proverb).
It was a fun addition to the game. We only got 2 games in and none of the new goals made it as winners. It slightly seemed to change the vulgarity that normally accompanies a group of guys playing cards, but we'll end up leaving them in.
