Seattle-based Cranium was created by Richard Tait and launched its title game 10 years ago. In April, the company downsized and laid off 20 percent of its staff.

"Now, the next chapter in Cranium's story begins. The Cranium brand will benefit from the expertise and global presence of an industry leader, Hasbro, who is as passionate about games as we are," Tait said in a statement.

Sadly that doesn't feel true at all. Hasbro has felt passionate about milking crappy themed version of games to a consumer public that is to disinterested in board games to notice. The Cranium folks have been producing games that are decent children's games for some time now - I hope Hasbro doesn't kill this line.

Sure, Hasbro is passionate about games -- about *selling* games. That's what they're (very, very) good at. They know how to move the product. How much or little those games are played and actually enjoyed isn't even remotely relevant if the sales numbers are good.

Seems like the Cranium line is perfect for them.

I used to play Cranium a good bit, although I've migrated away from party games a good bit now. It makes me sad when I see Hasbro buy anything, as I figure they will kill off innovation and focus more on maximizing revenue by rehashing the same tired games over and over again.

Damn. I like their games. I guess the only thing to look forward to is the eventual dump in prices at Walmart & Target.
Sigh...

Jesus, that's A HUGE chunk of change...and then some.

It suits the Habro line. Pictureka was also independently published before being licensed by Hasbro/Parker.

Now HAsbro should buy Wits and Wagers for crazy money. Oh wait, it's got 'gambling' so they probably will pass. Not family friendly. Hey Dominic, if you take out the gambling element and manage to sell it to Hasborg, send something nice my way.

We're ahead of you buddy. Our family edition of Wits & Wagers will not have gambling! laugh

But that's because of the overly zealous faction in the middle of the country that does not consider gambling (even if there is no money involved) to be a family activity. If that makes the game more desirable to Hasbro, so be it.

I send you a real nice fruit cake.

Just kidding. I'll send you a plane ticket to the BGG.Con. Then we can hang out an play games. How does that sound?
