The wife and I just played this for the first time last night and I couldn't find anything in the rulebook about it...

Is it possible for the same player to have both the most attractive enclosure of that animal type AND the second most attractive? If I focus on several marine enclosures, can I get all three visitors?

And also, does a single (half) tile of that color count as an enclosure? If I have a two-tile enclosure of 2 stars, and my opponent plays a single tile enclosure of 3 stars, will she get the visitors?

Re: A couple newbie questions
Regarding your first question, I'm pretty sure you can't have both the largest and second largest enclosures. I don't have the rules with me, but I know you don't even get two meeples until another player has an enclosure of the same type, so you cannot get all three meeples if you are the only one with a type of enclosure, even if you have two enclosures. I think only a player's largest enclosure is scored. But remember, I'm not sure on this one.

Your second question, I do know. Whoever has the most stars in an enclosure, regardless of tile size, gets the first-place visitors. So yes, even a single tile enclosure can been a two tile enclosure if the single tile has more stars.

This is a fun game and works surprisingly well with two players. My wife and I both enjoy it.

Re: A couple newbie questions
from the rulebook (rio grande version), page 9:

Quote:
If a player has separate enclosures of the same animal type, only the one with the most stars counts for him. It is [as] though any other enclosures of this animal type do not exist for him.

also on page 10:

Quote:
Exception: as long as there is only one player with an enclosure of an animal type in his zoo (no other players have that animal type enclosure), he gets just one visitor in this enclosure.

so no it's not possible to have both most and 2nd most.

and yes a single half tile enclosure counts as an enclosure, look at figure 4a on page 10 for an example.
