I've not played Ra, but I've noticed several threads here discussing the differences between Ra and Razzia! Those who are familiar with Ra seem somewhat disappointed with the retheming, and more importantly with the absence of the disaster tiles (hence suggested variants that add just the disaster dynamic or combine two copies of Razzia! to make Ra.)

I wonder to what extent the previous experience with Ra accounts for this disappointment, i.e. most of the comments are from people who first learned Ra and then learned Razzia! I'd like to hear from people who learned the two games in the reverse order, i.e. first Razzia! and then later Ra. If you learned Ra after first playing Razzia!, did you find find Ra superior in view of the additional disaster dynamic, and how did your later experience with Ra change your initial view of Razzia!?

I learned Razzia before Ra. I thought the disaster tiles were okay, but honestly they really didn't that much for me. I didn't really see what the big deal was. The main mechanics were the same, but it was just a couple of tiles to try and avoid.

If I had to choose, I would play Razzia over Ra. I find the disaster tiles adds more analysis to a game I don't find all that deep. Also I enjoy the theme of Razzia much more than Ra. I can totally see collecting loot and drivers being killed by other gangs. Collecting Suns, Floods and Monuments is kinda boring for me.

I learned Razzia before I learned Ra. I can understand why players going the other way might be dissapointed. I don't think that I would play Razzia again if Ra was on offer (much in the same way as I wouldn't play Euphrates & Tigris is Tigris & Euphrates was on offer and I had the time to play it)

Ra is a deeper game and Razzia is a good way to learn it gradually.

I learned Razzia before Ra. In fact, I didn't start playing Ra until I lost a "Razzia!" card, which makes the game impossible to play.

At this point, I wouldn't go back, even if I found the card . The disaster tiles help to keep things from getting dull when there's only one player left in the bidding. Without them, the last player is free to just keep drawing cards/tiles until the penultimate Ra/Razzia turns up. With disaster tiles, every single draw is agonizing.

Ok, I learned Ra first, but I like having Razzia too. It's so much easier to teach, not only because you don't have to cover disasters, but also because the theme fits so very, very much better.

I generally prefer Ra because I do like the disasters mechanic, and I like the aesthetics of Ra. But Razzia is cool too.

I played Ra once and liked it, but then I found out about Razzia! and it appealed to me a lot more. The theme makes more sense to me and I love the portability. Maybe I'll reach the point where I've mastered the game and need the disaster tiles to make it interesting again, but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

Razzia! was learned first and played often. Great little game, and one worth owning.

Ra was played later, and I found that having disaster tiles made decisions much tougher and more interesting. (It also affected the "push your luck" segments for the last person with tiles.) The change in gameplay was easy to understand and a definite improvement.

That said, I still prefer Razzia! simply because of the theme. Ra has great gameplay but thematically doesn't really make any sense for the average Joe. Without the more familiar mafia theme, it's unlikely the game would've gotten played by my non-gamer friends at all.

Message its old but just for the record.

I bought Razzia at a good prize and loved it But eventually gave Ra! a try and bought it when I could get it cheap. I liked the disasters and the proportion of tiles, dont mind about portability which its the great asset of Razzia.
