Why don't more companies publish cardstock counters like these? Or, for that matter, why didn't FASA continue publishing counters after a brilliant start with Battletech: Reinforcements?

A rhetorical question, really - miniatures are more profitable. But this is one of the greatest pet peeves I have with the gaming industry. And FASA isn't alone - I loved playing Blood Bowl until it switched to metal/plastic miniatures too.

The great thing about the cardstock counters is that you always had an ample supply of counters for a variety of scenarios. You weren't forced to decide whether you wanted to purchase a miniature that you may use only a few times, or instead allocate a completely different miniature to stand in for the one that you didn't own.

Ahhh, nostalgia. Makes me want to play Battletech again, after giving it up many years ago. And yes, the emphasis on miniatures was a big part of why I gave it up.

I'm right with you. With the new pro-miniature stance, my cardstock counters are like gold.

I'm always amused by the "old school" BT players who claim it's a miniatures game. In my day, we played with cardboard standees! And we liked it! zombie

(I think this is another in a long line of websites that could use a "grumpy old man" emoticon... )
