I was reading about a variant of the game Manhattan which involves Godzilla wreaking havoc on the city and then I thought about the game Property in Gamut of Games and something clicked in my head...
...so here is my variant to Property.
In addition to the normal equipment (deck of cards, 8 x 8 grid, pencil, chips or paper money) needed to play the regular game, you'll need a token of some sort of represent Mothra (Godzilla is so cliched now).
Depending on which cards you play, the following "directions" are generated:
Diamond - Spade = North Diamond - Club = South Heart - Spade = West Heart - Club = East
On the first turn, the two cards you play not only specify which square you own, but the side of the map that Mothra enters from - the square he occupies is up to you.
On every other turn, the two cards you play determine not only which square you "land" on, but also the direction in which you can move Mothra.
Thus, if you play an 8 of diamonds and a 3 of clubs, not only do you "land" on red 8 - black 3 (and either claim ownership of that square, get mortgaged there or pay rent), but you also move Mothra one square south. If any combination of cards results in Mothra moving off the map, his movement is "reversed", i.e. if Mothra is at the south extremity of the map and the player plays a diamond and a club, instead of moving south (which would take him off the map), Mothra moves north.
If Mothra lands on a square that is "owned", that square is now unowned, i.e. Mothra has completely trashed the building that was once there. Thus, movement of Mothra can break up chains of adjacent buildings that your opponents might have, thus reducing the amount of rent they can earn (and also driving down property values).
The game ends as it normally does, when one player goes bankrupt.

Re:Variant of Property or Mothra Drives Down Real Estate Values

Oh yeah - I forgot to mention.
Mothra moves AFTER rent is paid, property is bought, etc. In other words, resolving his movement (and his antisocial behavior) is the LAST thing a player does before play proceeds to the next player.

Another thing I left out - players can NOT "land" on a square occupied by Mothra.
If they have no choice but to do so because of the cards they hold in their hand, they must immediately discard all the cards in their hand and re-draw their hand as they did when the game started and play out their turn.
It is possible that they will have to discard their hand again and re-draw if the cards they end up with will "land" them on Mothra again.

Jpwoo (#69750),
Gamera?
A giant radioactive turtle?
Isn't that a bit unrealistic?

Re:Variant of Property or Mothra Drives Down Real Estate Values
As a variant of a variant, you can also try the "National Guard gets desperate and drops the big one" option.
Which is - you can WILLINGLY play two cards which could land you on top of Mothra (or Gamera if you prefer)...what this does is destroy Mothra (who will return the next turn from one of the edges of the board) and every building in the eight squares surrounding his square. What this means in "real world terms" is that the National Guard has been called in, assessed the situation...and carried out a full scale air strike on Mothra, eliminating the threat (not to mention the city's skyline) and further driving down property values.
You do not have to do this - if you wish, you can discard and draw as before. It goes without saying that you probably want to air strike Mothra when he's close to your property (but not too close) but would be more than happy to let him continue his rampage when he's close to your opponents' property (although if he's right in the middle of property controlled by your opponent, an air strike might be a good idea ).
