Who are the men on the general cards? I recognize Lee, Jackson, and Mclellen. But the others are unfamiliar. And I don't see Grant anywhere!

Also, what are the locations pictured on the battle mats?

I wish there was more history in the rule book, at least in the explaination of the above cards/mats. That would have added a lot of flavor to the game!

Only one I recognise is Burnside - he's the guy with the enormous sideburns...

Re:Who are the generals?
rayito2702 (#71234),

I *STILL* need to look them up.

The fortifications are much easier. Three of the images are from the Confederate defenses surrounding Atlanta. One is from Sharpsburg. (The Sharpsburg image is the flat plain with a couple of obsctructions.)

The most striking landscapes I could find (including the Atlanta images) came from: "Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign"

http://store.yahoo.com/doverpublications/0486234452.html

Most of the rest of the images on cards were just random photos pulled from Matthew Brady. He obviously did a ton of portraits, as most of the generals were his.

I'm pretty sure most of the pictured Generals came from:

Don't know if you're still wondering, but they are:

Yellow * = McClellan
Yellow ** = David Dixon Porter (Union admiral)
Yellow *** = David Farragut (Union admiral)

Black * = "Fighting Joe" Hooker
Black ** = Ambrose Burnside
Black *** = Meade

Red * = P.G.T. Beauregard
Red ** = James Longstreet
Red *** = George Pickett

Green * = "Stonewall" Jackson
Green ** = Jeb Stuart
Green *** = Lee

Sorry about that, Chief

Interesting that there's no Pap Thomas, William Sherman, or US Grant. But it is nice to see Porter and Farragut get their due.

Yeah, and it's also interesting that in the game Pickett is the red 3-star general and Longstreet is the red 2-star general. Interesting because Pickett served directly under Longstreet's command during the war...
