So you want the complete rules (with the idea of the game and info about author etc.) or just the gist of it.
The gist is this: -The small extra board is placed next to the start field of the large board and the coloured pawns are placed on the lowest step (with the arrow.) -the game continues according to the "Spooky Stairs" rules until all pawns have been turned into ghosts. -the child who enters the last ghost into the game now additionally must place the bottle on a ghost of his/her choice. (Can be their own). This ghost is now stuck and can't be moved again or swapped until it has been liberated from the bottle. -when a player rolls a ghost, first they swap two ghosts or any two disks as usual, but then they MUST additionally liberate the "ghost-in-a-bottle" by taking the bottle off it and placing it over another ghost. -if the active player cannot move their own ghost (because it's trapped in the bottle) they must move another instead. -game ends same as "Spooky Stairs."
Hope that helps

Try this; I did it from the French version as I'm much more fluent in that language. I didn't spot any differences from the German rules; someone correct me if I'm wrong:
Ghost Trap is an extension for The Haunted Staircase, and therefore can not be played without the latter.
In Ghost Trap, the tumultuous activity of the ghost children slowly becomes a little bit too much for the castle ghost. They become more and more pests who disturb his well-earned rest. Therefore, the old ghost tries to catch the small ghosts in an enchanted, firmly corked bottle.
The box contains:
- an extension of the board - 2 new children pawns (blue and pink), - 2 markers in the colors of the new ghost children (blue and pink) - 2 ghost costumes - a transparent plastic bottle and its cork
The principle of game remains the same as that of The Haunted Staircase; it’s a race game where the players hide under a costume of ghost when the dice lands on the "ghost" face.
The small extra board is placed next to the start field of the main board and the colored pawns are placed on the lowest step (marked with an arrow.)
The game follows the same rules as The Haunted Staircase until all the children have been turned into ghosts.
When all players are hidden under their costumes and the dice stops once again on the “ghost" face, the player first must exchange 2 ghosts, or 2 markers of colors of the players (the latter is a variant for experienced players). Then, with the addition of Ghost Trap, the player must place the bottle on a ghost of their choice (which can be their own). This ghost is now stuck and can't be moved again or swapped until it has been freed from the bottle.
A ghost is freed when a player rolls another "ghost" on the dice. This forces that player to release the trapped ghost by taking the bottle off it and placing it over another ghost.
So Ghost Traps adds a step to game play:
- When a player rolls the dice they move normally unless they roll a ghost on the dice. Also, if the player cannot move their own ghost (because it's trapped), then they must move another player's ghost instead.
- If the player rolls a ghost on the dice, they first they swap two available ghosts (or any two markers) as usual. Then the same player either traps a ghost using the bottle, or frees a ghost from the bottle by taking the bottle off it and then placing it over another ghost, trapping that one instead.
The objective of the players remains the same: that his pawn is the first to reach the last step of the staircase, even if it is another player who made it get there...

Thank you very much Diane and Julie! I just ordered this from Germany, and sadly my German is very rusty, but now I know enough to use the expansion. I like the twist of being allowed to switch the players' color markers instead of their ghosts.
