I'm aware the admins wanted a category so that people submitting games that are supposed to belong here would know that such games should just go here. But being this is a boardgaming site, why not just lose this "game entry" and mention in the rules and policies of when a user attempts to submit a game entry that any games that are "outside the scope of BGG" will simply not be accepted?
Is it so that BGG can broaden its horizons to get more users and activity? I know sites that specialize in one thing or some broad thing do this all the time. For example some of the "more underground" sites* which cater to interests like cellphones, video games, and music, culture, and digital camera forums have off topic message boards for relationships, economy, weather, children, religion, etc. As mentioned, is this BGG's way of getting more exposure and better ad revunes as a 'side bonus'?
* not as mainstread or "standardized" as say, here on BGG, Cnet, etc. where cursing, derogatory comments, and topics of very uncencored sexual nature are less tolerated if at all)
EDIT: made post more clear via better wording, grammar, and phrasing. Yikes!

Why did post about this? Now your post is outside the scope of BGG.

All those would be wonderful reasons if the Description section of this game didn't say:
Description of Outside the Scope of BGG wrote: This is a catch-all category for games that are not board games in the sense defined by BoardGameGeek. These include:
OUTDOOR DEXTERITY OR 'SPORTING GOODS' GAMES [example listing]
SOME INDOOR DEXTERITY OR 'SPORTING GOODS' GAMES [example listing]
VIDEO ONLY GAMES WITHOUT BOARDS OR CARDS: [example listing]
ROLE PLAYING GAMES [example listing]
If you have found this entry while searching for a game to add to the database, the game you are considering submitting has been judged not within the scope of BGG, and will not be accepted.
To be honest, judging by the recent image submissions this entry might as well be called: The BGG Attic.

There are some games (Darts being the main one) that I feel are just as worthy as other games; it is in this entry becasue it isn't portable enough per BGG admins. But I still love the game, and like to record my plays, use as a wishlist, etc.

Ditto. I log all my table games. If I had to keep a separate list for D&D night I would be somewhat wroth.
Once RPGGeek is up, I suppose this entry will be much less useful to me, but still, what does it cost?

I don't mind having this "game entry". Just wondering other motivations behind it. Plus, I guess it does add some confusion, but this whole site can be very confusing to begin with

The dustbin argument is fairly spot-on -- rather than just delete content for games that are outside the scope, they can be merged into this entry. Since we're all human and fallible, sometimes games make it into the database that should not be on BGG. When they are discovered, they can be moved to here without losing some of their content, like images and forums.

Wondered that myself, especially wondered why it is given a rating? How can misc. games, which by definition is mulitiple games that don't fit the site catagory be rated higher than most other games that do fit the catagory?

You never know why people do the things they do. I have a game group that meets regularly, and I invite them to peruse my game list. Since we sometimes play at a pub, I could add a "copy" of this "game" to my collection, rate it, and put a comment in saying I was referring to Darts, or Pool, or even Gin and Tonic. That way, people could see how likely I would want to play Darts vs. Dominion, or whether I prefer the experience of playing Wizard vs. drinking Rye and Ginger.
(I do have about 10 "copies" of Unpublished Prototype)
