Frank and I are just about to embark on a 20 turn game of Typhoon in Guderian's Blitzkrieg II.

Probably the biggest OCS scenario I have attempted yet.

Looking forward to learning how to run a big operation, by trial and error ...

Playing the Germans in Guderian's Blitzkrieg II , Typhoon was my third or fourth OCS game. After that experience I knew the OCS rules and how to use them.

I have 2 OCS eastfront games lined up. On June 22nd 6 of us are getting together to play Guderian's Blitzkrieg II scenario 6.8 Mars small. Its a 2 map 10 turn game. We have 3 days to finish it.

I also have a Guderian's Blitzkrieg II game that we may combine with Case Blue. There will be four of us and this one will be Typhoon 7.1 + 7.2. We will play this one on vassal.

I was having OCS withdrawls. This should stop the shaking!

I understand from my parents I was born about a week late. It seems like being a week early, and landing on D-Day, would have been much more auspicious....

Well, at least you have good taste in birth months. Celebrate with a triumphal parade of your victory from the "Mars small" game (even if you have to 'invent' the 'victory' part).

Which side are you.
How did you manage the HQ issue.
I found this most annoying and very frustrating.

I'm playing the Russians Kev. In around 12-15 games I've played of this I saw them win once.
I am trying though.
Fun game.

due to activation sequence you are often left with not being able to move the HQ, but being able to move the HQs units.

As the Germans the their weaker HQs are left behind, forcing constricted front.

I've only played this twice, and I found that aspect not only ridiculous that across a general withdrawal that HQs are left behind, but annoying as it left tactical flexibility wanting. It seems to be primarily a problem for the Axis.

likely not a big deal if indeed the Soviets dont win much as Bill says.

I also could be playing a game wrong AGAIN!! shake

The Stavka chit help a lot for managing this issue. Yet if it comes as the first chit in a turn, and at the end of the next turn, this is a problem.

Some HQs are not so important for the soviets. It requires some attention, and cause some pauses in the offense. But nothing insurmountable.

It look like a fair representation of history, to see the Soviet High command having some difficulties in managing their armies for a large scale offensive.

I found the issue to be a challenge for the German/Axis forces more than the Soviets.

very true, however I was disenchanted. too many other great games to play without investing in something that doe snot float my boat. i.e. GBII at the moment. I fI have a chance to play face to face I will give it A WHIRL, plus I am still keen to play AVD.

But first OCS East front small stuff, the UK '44, then EFS then who knows from there.

A Victory Lost with deltarn continues. We are into the 7th turn. I had taken Rostov earlier but it was recaptured quickly. At the beginning of this turn 2 Soviet activations back to back allowed me to capture Kharkov.
The score is close (Germans up by 7) but I have strong doubts that I can pull this one off.
My playings of this game ( somewhere around 12-15 times) have seen one Soviet victory.

I just got a mint copy of Hube's Pocket today. This will be one of the next games I play. I'm also starting another 4 player Guderian's Blitzkrieg II Typhoon scenario. I'm playing the Germans this time.

What happened. It looked close. I am glad however that your plays confirm my suspicion about this game after two attempts.

I've played this game 12-15 times? Something like that. I've seen one Russian victory, that was me as the Russian's playing a first time AVL player.
I've come within one hex of winning as the Russian's one other time. If I'd had one more movement point (@#543!) I would've surrounded most of the German Army on the last turn.
Any good German player can bunch up his Panzer Division's and HQ. Good luck to the Russian's.
In my game with Arnaud I decided to be as aggressive as possible. I pushed my forces forward as much as possible and tried to keep his Panzers in ZOCs to cut down on there MP . I also made frequent 1.5-1 attacks and even a few 1-1s trying to cross the Donets river. I actually captured a couple victory point cities briefly (something I rarely have seen in this game).
He had 5 activation's in a row one turn that pretty much cleaned all my troops out that had crossed the river.
As far as the chit pulls go I think I had fairly good luck. I got Stavka near the beginning of the turn most of the time. This allowed me to set up my HQs so many of my spearheads could activate twice.
The Russian's are never going to get the 3, 4, and even 5 activation's of the same units the way the German's do (can). The strongest Russian units are 4-3-6 and 3-5-6. the German's have many 9-4-10.
I still find it a fun game but balanced it isn't.

nice. so you encircle those units to the north turn 1.
Really Sov. gotta man up and take it yes?
Is there value in a spread of low odds attacks forcing either 1/2 CF via no sp or soak off for soviets?

Hi Bill,
The gap in the middle looks really frightening to defend for the Germans, at start. Hopefuly he has elite Pz divisions north of Vinnista and the open terrain scream for action.
The right side south of Cherkassy offers a sharp contrast, it's usually a slaughterhouse, the Soviets get AR 4 infantry divisions in almost every hexes, GD comes in soon and will have a lot to do.

I Hope you'll like it.
