Fleet is a brand new strategic card game coming Thursday March 1 to kickstarter.com and Eagle-Gryphon Games.

Fleet is a strategic card based game featuring a unique commercial fishing theme. Fleet uses both existing and new mechanics to create an exciting game play experience.

Story:
In the northwest corner of Nunavut, Canada, a formerly inaccessible bay off of the Arctic Ocean has become reachable through a secret inlet. Untouched by the hands of time and fed by both the ocean and warm fresh water springs, Ridback Bay is teeming with sea life. A remote, timeless bayside village is now being inundated by entrepreneurs awaiting the influx of the world’s greatest fisherman to harvest this plentiful bounty. The docks and warehouses are being revitalized and now it is time to begin the real adventure. Go build your Fleet and become master of the high seas!

Game Overview:
Acquire licenses, launch boats, and fish the great briny blue. The player who best manages his resources and acquires the most VP via fish, licenses, and boats, will build the strongest Fleet and lead his crew to victory!

In Chicken Caesar, players represent several aristocratic ancient Roman chicken families trying to create a legacy for their family name. Each family has several eligible roosters eager to jump into the world of politics, getting rich and creating a legacy by any means necessary.

Roosters gain renown for their families by occupying various political offices. Low-ranking officers don't yield much fame, but they hold both the purse strings and the power of the sword. A few roosters in the lower offices of Aedile and Praetor, together with the votes of a few well-bribed (and temporary) allies, can clear a path to the luxury and recognition that come with the titles of Censor, Consul, and even Caesar.

Being Caesar isn't easy, though: fail to bribe and bargain to ensure the welfare of the whole coop and today's Caesar is tomorrow's Coq au Vin. Dead roosters don't earn any more points, but they do offer opportunities for their surviving relatives to exaggerate their accomplishments in the annals of history. All that matters in the end is history's judgment, and history can be rewritten.

Murder, betrayal, votes for cash, fragile alliances, and bloody vendettas will separate the legendary families from the forgotten ones in the struggle to become - and remain - Chicken Caesar!

In this contest you will learn more about Chicken Caesar! Spend some time checking out the game on our BGG page, Kickstarter page, and in our current rulebook. You might just win a copy!

If you post (in the comments) a funny or cute picture that contains a cat and a box (plus it is somehow game related), I will give you either a microbadge code or 8 to buy a Cat in a Box microbadge.

Here it is: mb

If you already have a Cat in a Box microbadge, you can buy some other microbadge.

Don't forget to add a funny caption or comment. It can be under the picture or in the picture (like on ICanHasCheezburger.com).

I will also select one of the contestants to get a super tiny surprise package (it will fit in a DVD bubble mailer envelope). It will have both cat and game stuff in it.

Are we there yet?

The Best Strategy Game of 2011 has A Few Acres of Sorrow matched up against Dragon Valley and Mage Knight: board game. This is definitely a place where the BGG perspective would be nice. Cheers!

Welcome to the Queen Games Escape and Edo contest! Both games are in the midst of their respective Kickstarter campaigns, and we'd love for you to learn more about the games and their Kickstarter campaigns! Take some time to learn about the games, and you just might be rewarded with one of the games, or even a trip to BGG.CON!

-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------

Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a cooperative game in which players must escape from a temple before the temple collapses and kills one or more explorers, thereby causing everyone to lose.

Escape is played in real-time, with all players rolling dice and taking actions simultaneously. The real-time aspect is enforced by a soundtrack to be played during the game. At certain points, a countdown starts, and if players aren't back in the safe room when time is up, they lose one of their dice. You must roll the right symbols to enter a room, and if you're at an open doorway, you can roll to reveal the next tile in the stack and add it to that doorway. Some rooms contain combinations of symbols, and if you (possibly working with other players in the same room) roll enough matching symbols, you "discover" special gems, moving them from a supply card off the game board onto that tile.

Once the exit tile is revealed, players can attempt to escape the temple by moving to that tile, then rolling a number of blue dice equal to the special gems that haven't been removed from the supply card. Thus, the more gems you find, the easier it is to escape the temple. When a player escapes, he gives one die to a player of his choice. If all players escape before the third countdown, everyone wins; if not, everyone loses, no matter how many players did escape.

-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------

In Edo, players represent daimyo in mid-second millennium Japan who are trying to serve their shogun by using their samurai to construct castles, markets and houses in Tokyo and surrounding areas.

Each turn, the players simultaneously choose which actions they want to take with their three cards and in which order, programming those actions on their player cards, similar to the planning phase in Dirk Henn's Wallenstein and Shogun. Players then take actions in turn order, moving samurai on the board as needed (paying $1 per space moved) in order to complete actions (to the forest for wood, the rice fields for rice, cities to build, and so on). Before a player can move samurai, however, he must use an action to place them on the game board; some actions allow free movement, and others allow a player to recruit additional samurai beyond the initial five. One other action allows you to recruit additional action cards from an array on the side of the game board, thereby giving you four (or more) cards from which to choose for the rest of the game.

Building in cities costs resources and gives you points as well as money; as more players build in a city, the funds are split among all present, with those first in the city receiving a larger share. Players can also receive points or buy stone by dealing with a traveling merchant. Once at least one player has twelve points, the game finishes at the end of the round, with players scoring endgame bonuses for money in hand and other things. The player with the most points wins.

Welcome to the Eaten By Zombies!: In Cahoots Contest. In Cahoots has JUST begun its Kickstarter campaign and we would love for you to take a moment to get to know In Cahoots. You just might win a signed copy of the game, a signed copy of the 4-player Eaten By Zombies Game, some great custom made artwork, or maybe one of our just-released Hardwood Crokinole boards!

Eaten By Zombies: In Cahoots! Is unique in that it is a 2-player deck builder game which is based on the Eaten By Zombies world created by Max Holliday in his 2011 smash hit. In Cahoots features two all new starting players, as well as all new swag cards, and five special zombie cards from fan-submitted pictures. The game comes in a handsome "ammo pouch" inspired box which is a nice follow up to the 4-player Eaten By Zombies game's Ammo Can stylized box.

This 2-player game is still set in the 1950s in Main Street USA and can be played stand alone as a 2-player game where players will likely need to cooperate much more to survive, especially if the "In Cahoots" Swag Card comes into play. This game can also be used as a 5-6 player expansion of the original game, with room in the original box for the expansion thanks to great planning on Max's part.

While In Cahoots is a deck-building game, the object is not to rack up victory points or just to improve the value/size of your hand. Instead, the goal is just to stay alive for one more turn. Players start with 12 cards (5 heavy stick, 5 hide and 2 Sandwiches), shuffling them to keep 6 of them in their hand. The players then face a zombie horde, starting with just one zombie at the beginning of the game. Players must choose to fight or flee, with a successful attempt meaning the player can "scavenge" for more swag. The value of the "scavenge" (think "buy" in Dominion) is the strength of the fight/flee value, plus some modifiers on certain cards. Cards scavenged go directly into the player's hand in preparation for the next onslaught and zombies that are successfully fought end up in the player's discard pile, along with the played cards for each turn.

As players shuffle and draw from their new draw piles the killed zombies appear in a player's hand. These zombies can only be gotten rid of by playing them on other players. When the zombie deck has been gone through the first time then instead of one zombie per turn, each player must face two zombies per turn, and so on. The result is tougher and tougher fights and more and more zombies. As players lose a fight/flee exchange with the horde they must discard cards, weakening their future resistance to the zombies. Players who lose an encounter and have no cards left to draw succumb to the zombies and lose the game in the 2-player game. With enough cooperation both players can win the game together by having no zombies left in the zombie deck, a tall order in this tough battle for your own humanity. For greater options play with 3 or more players with the Eaten By Zombies base game, in that case as a player dies they actually become a zombie and continue playing the game with all new actions.

Paolo Morris & Francesco Sirocchi released the first Pocket Battles (Pocket Battles: Celts vs. Romans) in 2009, and since then they have returned with two new versions of the game: Pocket Battles: Elves vs. Orcs in 2010, and, more recently Pocket Battles: Macedonians vs. Persians in 2012.

Pocket Battles is an innovative battle game, since you don't need a lot of space to set-up and play. No big game boards, no elaborate set-up, no huge boxes. Just one little box, with all you need to do battle against your opponent.

The fun with Pocket Battles is that you can mix and match armies from different versions of the game! So you could battle Romans against Orcs or Persians against Elves. You could even have and army composed of Elves and Celts against Macedonians and Orcs. You could also battle an army identical to your own! Additionally, you draft your army from the total available armies every game, so even no two Orc armies may ever be alike. The combinations are endless!

Interested? Enter now for a chance to win the full set of all three Pocket Battles games!

Eagle & Gryphon Games Kickstarter Contest! Expired.

chaddyboy_2000 wrote:
Welcome to Eagle and Gryphon Games' first BGG contest! Below is a description of the games included in the contest. Because the contest covers more than one game, we made the questions very easy to answer (no rules questions here!).

Fleet
Fleet is a strategic, card-based game featuring a unique commercial fishing theme. Fleet uses both existing and new mechanics to create an exciting game play experience. In Fleet players will purchase licenses, launch boats, and fish the great briny blue. The player who best manages his or her resources and acquires the most victory points via fish, licenses, and boats, will build the strongest fleet and lead their crew to victory!

Fleet is designed by Benjamin Pinchback and Matthew Riddle, and features the art of Eric J. Carter. This is your last chance to back Fleet and claim the many stretch goals and exclusives offered because the Kickstarter campaign for Fleet ends this Friday, April 27th!

Defenders of the Realm: Battlefields
Defenders of the Realm: Battlefields is a stand-alone fantasy battle game for 2-4 players designed by Richard Launius and set in the artistic world of Larry Elmore.

In the game, one side takes the role of the Dark Lord's invading army of minions, while the other side represents the heroes defending the Realm from the forces of evil. The battles are fast and furious as players place minions and heroes onto the battlefields and attack their opponents using a variety of abilities and special skills. Fourteen battlefield cards are included in the game and play begins with three being laid out randomly. Players take turns playing cards onto one of the battlefields in play trying to build up enough strength to win that battlefield. Each battlefield card bears a special power that the winner of that card receives as a reward. The first side that is victorious on 3 battlefields of the same color or 5 total battlefields is the winner!

Defenders of the Realm: Battlefields has just launched on Kickstarter and has a number of exciting rewards including exclusive cards, extra battlefields, and cards signed by the Designer, Richard Launius!

Solitaire for Two
Six-Suit Solitaire and Solitaire for Two are a new twist on Klondike, the most popular solitaire card game of all time. Yet most people don't even know the name Klondike. They refer to the game they're playing as, simply, "Solitaire". So what's the new twist?

Six-Suit Solitaire and Solitaire for Two have many features from the original "Solitaire", but are loaded with much more action and decision-making. The object in both new games remains the same-to play as many tiles as possible "Up Top" in the piles that go from Ace through King in each of the six suits. Six-Suit Solitaire and Solitaire for Two are played with tiles instead of cards. There are nine columns in the layout, not seven, and instead of just the four standard suits, there are six suits - plus three special Jokers. In addition, we've added a scoring system AND the ability to play the game with a second player (or two or three).

Look for Solitaire for Two on Kickstarter today!

Czech Games "Last Will" & "Dungeon Petz" Contest! Expired.

chaddyboy_2000 wrote:
Last Will
In Victorian England, the profits of the Industrial Revolution have given rise to a wealthy upper class of English ladies and gentlemen. Sadly, you are not among them. But you do have a rich uncle, recently departed, who decided on his death bed to leave all his money to the relative who will enjoy it the most. To find out who that is, you and your cousins will each be given a substantial sum of money. Whoever can spend it the fastest will inherit all your uncle's wealth.

Dungeon Petz
"What this town needs is a pet store." No one knows which imp said it, but every imp recognized the idea was pure genius: "A pet shop for dungeon lords? What a great idea! Yeah, and no one else is doing it! No competition! We'll be rich!"

And now you have just opened the first pet shop in town. Right next door to the other first pet shop in town. Across the street from two more.

Buy baby monsters! Feed them and watch them grow! Clean their cages! Yes, running a pet store is exciting for an imp. But it can also be mentally challenging: What is the smartest way to win the upcoming exhibition? Which pet is best suited for your dungeon lord customer? How strong a cage do you need, and if you guess wrong, how many family members will be maimed? Win or lose, you are sure to enjoy the grand opening of Dungeon Petz.

In this contest, you will be encouraged to learn a little bit about Last Will and Dungeon Petz. Try searching for answers on the BGG pages or on the CGE website.
