My only FAQ for Bonnie and Clyde is: During your turn you must always have a card in your hand as a potential discard at the end of your turn. (This prevents playing all cards in hand as a meld and hoping to get a discard from under a location)

Suggestion: Keep 10 markers on hand and mark a location on the board when a meld of it has been played. This makes it easy to see what cards can be laid off as the game progresses.

Thanks, Mike. If my memory isn't playing tricks with me, the discard rule makes B&C consistent with all the other Mystery Rummy games.

Congratulations on finally getting this one in print! What a long, strange trip it's been.

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

As far as I'm concerned, while playing two player you can just lay out the melds in front of the various numbers (think Pecking Order) with a section for the 'bonus card.' Rotate according to rules.

This way both players know what melds have been played or not.

(also, great game 2 player - afraid to play it 3 or 4 player.)

Hi, Mike, and thanks for a very enjoyable MR game! Just bought Bonnie & Clyde and especially like the good assortment of options that one has in each hand. There is a lot to consider: how to best use the Ted Hinton card, how to use a lay off to move the car to a desirable location, being able to look at one of the hidden cards and be able to add it to your hand or leave it in place, just to mention a few.

Stop me if you've heard this before (about 3,000 times!): what are the chances that the other Mystery Rummy games will be reissued in English?

Take care, and keep up the good work. Hope Rio Grande will have you put out other games, but please don't make us wait years!!

I also do not use the markers for 2 players. 3 or 4 they are helpful. I would urge you to give it a try with 3. I think it really works well.

Played the game for the first time last night (4 player) and am looking for some rule clarifications:

1. Can you meld and layoff the same suit (card #) on the same turn?

For example, if I have four cards of the #7 card in my hand, are my options:

1. Meld all four #7 cards.
2. Meld three of the #7 cards. Then layoff one of the #7 cards.
3. Meld three of the #7 cards.
4. Save the cards for a later turn.

(We assume that you can both meld and layoff the same numbered card on the same turn.)

2. When you perform an action which allows you to move the car either up or down, are you forced to move the car?

(We played that you are forced to move the car. It is not a "may" action.)

Thanks, in advance, for any clarification you can provide.

Also, we will definitely play with the "suggestion" to use markers on the board next time. We had to play a very verbal ("I am picking up a #6." "I am melding a #3." "The melds in play are #1, #3, #9.") game without them.

Expecting the game will be "better" with fewer than 4 players.

I'd say yes, you can meld and layoff in the same turn. That's how we've been playing it, anyway. The rules don't give any kind of restrictions, and a big part of the game is how you set up chain reactions of high scoring plays with car movement.

Just found this sentence under the Discard paragraph:

After you have played all the cards you want to, you must discard any one card face up on the top of the FBI Files.

I underlined the pertinent phrase. No restrictions given, so I'd definitely say it's ok.

Yes, you must move the car. The rules are broken down into two parts when describing the play of melds and layoffs, depending on whether or not the car is at that location. Both of those sections start with the phrase:

Quote:
Once you have placed the meld or layoff, you must do both of the
following

One more thought. The only time you would not move the car is if it were in position 10 and you played a meld. Melds only allow forward movement, and you can't move the car off the board.

We've been playing the game to death since I picked it up last week. Lots of fun with two. I'm looking forward to playing it with more.

You are right on both counts. You can meld and layoff same suit in same turn. And you must move the car.

I just realized I didn't really capture what Mike was saying with his FAQ in my original comment. The players must have at least one card in hand at all times. This is not the same as all the other Mystery Rummy games, where the only requirement is that you be able to discard at the end of your turn. The example Mike gives (I can't meld all my cards, then take the card at the meld's location, to use as a discard) shows the difference between those situations. Sorry 'bout that.

One other question, Mike. If the car is on the 10 space and someone makes a meld, I assume it stays on the 10 space; i.e., it tries to move up one, but it can't, so it doesn't move. What about when someone lays off a card when the card is sitting on 10? Do they have to move the car to 9 (since that's the only way the car can be moved), or are they allowed to "move" it up, thereby keeping the car on 10, just as if it was a meld that was played? The same question applies when a layoff is played and the car is on the 1 space--can the car be moved down, thus letting it stay on 1?

I'm guessing the restriction is because there's a possibility that card at the meld's location is the Bonnie or Clyde card, which has to be played to the table or left where it is,(depending on car position) in which case you'd have no card to discard.

When you meld it has to stay at 10. When you layoff it would have to go to 9. When a layoff happens and it is at 1 it must go to 2.

Congrats on the game finally getting out.
Big fan of Ripper and Wyatt Earp.

We ran into the "meld/hope to pick up up discard" anomaly
in our first run through, so glad there is clarification here at least.

I LOVE the art work on the cards and look forward to exploring the layers to the strategies.

Timothy
